Introduction

Before coming together as a group, we all thought our ideas linked well together before coming up with what we envisioned our piece to be about. As our ideas were all very similar, we easily agreed that we wanted our piece to be based around rain. Our first step as a group was to each have an individual role whilst still discussing how we wanted the overall piece to be envisioned. Many ideas were thrown together with the main theme being rain. We discussed some ideas of how rain is perceived and the different reflections and different perspectives we can see from it. Another idea was how raindrops fall or travel from objects like down car windows. We knew that there were too many ideas at the start, and this had to be narrowed down, but these were our stepping stones to getting the project started. As the project started to develop, we progressively changed our initial idea due to problems we faced along the way.

Inspirational Work

We found this video when we were looking for a song and knew this was going to inspire our project. We thought of Paradise by Coldplay we all knew that we liked this song but what took us by surprise was that we liked the music video even better. The music video was interesting and unique. The intentions of the music video were inspirational, and we were inspired by it as we knew it could connect and link to the theme of our project. The video starts with "Coldplay" dressed in an elephant costume and shows him adding another tally mark which may indicate how long he has been trapped in the zoo. Throughout the rest of the video, you see the elephant escape the zoo and eventually end up in the wild and meet with three of the same elephants and they start playing musical instruments and singing. This suggests the sense of escaping reality.

Individual roles and work

From many of the sessions we had one of our priorities was to provide ourselves with individual roles. We decided our roles based on who would most likely be suitable for them and be able to contribute to the work that was needed to be provided. Anna and Molly were given the role of videographer we thought it was a good idea to provide two people with this role as they could capture different angles and perspectives and how people interpret different views. Kate was given the role of dancer and editor we thought Kate would suit this role the best as she was happy enough to dance in different locations and environments showing different expressions and emotions whilst pursuing dance movements and was the most confident and familiar with editing videos and what would appeal to the audience most effectively. Tilly was provided with the role of organiser as we could rely on Tilly being in charge of the project and making sure the plan was outlined all elements were in place and that everything happened as it should on the day to ensure success, she was also choreographer, so she designed steps, movements and put together the choreography for Kate to perform. My role was director which meant I had the responsibility of making decisions and making sure the group agreed and was happy with it. I had to act in a way of good faith that shows I wanted the project to be a success and for the benefit of the members. I had to also make sure we performed to the best of our ability but also ensure that the technical aspects were still in place so that our intention still came across in the video. I was also responsible for developing and implementing strategies to retain the best work from our group.

Challenges we faced

Although we worked well as a group, we did face challenges along the way to the finishing product. Each group member had different timetables which meant planning days to film made it difficult to get everyone free at the same time however, we discussed that we didn't need everyone at the location to be able to get it started. Another factor that affected us was the availability of extra people around to help develop our project, due to doing their projects and having their commitments they couldn't help but we then decided that we could use all the members in our group to create the work we needed without waiting on people to be free. Another element that made it challenging was the weather as our initial idea was based around rain. We had to adapt our initial idea due to the reason being we couldn't rely on the weather and couldn't plan due to weather conditions. As a group, we also found it difficult to get to locations as a member of our group had to travel by train and due to train strikes couldn't make all dates that were arranged which meant that she either couldn't be there whilst the rest of the group progressed with the project or we had to arrange another day where hopefully train strikes wouldn't affect travelling to different locations.

Evaluation

Although our project finally came together as a finished product there were a few hurdles on the way that we had to manage as a group. I think we all worked well as a group as we tackled the challenges we faced well but if we had to do the project again I think we could improve on our communication skills. In the role of director, I think I did a good job making responsible decisions and ensuring we got the project done before the deadline. My main priority was to make sure all group members had their own opinions and were kept up to date if they had missed a session. I think I could have improved on having more strategies ready and prepared in case we faced multiple challenges.

Concept

Our ideas linked all in some way which made it easy for us to form our group. All of our thoughts contained rain in different aspects which made it easy for us to base our project around the subject. Many ideas were thrown together based on how the rain was perceived how it can be seen from different perspectives and the different reflections you can get from looking into puddles etc. Many stepping stones along the way led us to finally decide our initial idea was going to be around rain and weather in general and how it can affect someone's emotions in many different ways. We played around with this concept a little bit to see how the weather especially rain could affect someone's emotions we saw many different results including that when it was dark and raining it would give off negative emotions whereas sometimes when it was raining and sunny it could give off a positive attitude with emotions that followed. As we continued to progress with the project we had to progressively change our initial idea due to the reason we couldn't always rely on when it was going to rain however we still managed to keep some scenic and water reflections and ideas as an intro into our video to show the development of the project and how this is still linked to our new thoughts and ideas. We had to think quickly and smartly to develop our idea to make a new concept keeping the outlined ideas to our previous concept. We concluded that we all agreed that we wouldn't change our thoughts entirely so we decided to change it to how friends and environments can impact people and their emotions in different ways. We thought of some ideas of how this could be portrayed and tested this out before this became our initial idea. Overall we thought that with the practice task we had done preparing to film this, it worked well and showed the message and intentions we were trying to portray. As we used different devices including music people and the environment you can see how easily this can change someone's perspective on life and how it can change people's emotions for the better but sometimes could have a negative impact.

Inspirational Work

We had to consider the content we wanted in our video once we began organising the subsequent steps of our creative process. We all thought it was a great idea to highlight the benefits of rain and water in the opening credits of the television series Friends. The cast is seen dancing and having fun in the Central Park fountain, splashing around in the water, laughing with one another, and generally looking very happy.

Italian Gardens

Located close to Lancaster Gate on the park's northern edge, this aesthetically pleasing water garden dates to the 1860s. We looked at a few different fountains as inspiration for where we were going to visit unfortunately, we didn't get the opportunity to visit this fountain.

Diana Memorial Fountain

This was another fountain we looked into for inspiration but again couldn't unfortunately visit. Diana's openness and quality are symbolised by the Memorial, whose design attempts to capture her essence.

Creative Process

We created a basic storyboard early in the creative process that included our ideas for the work. Even if our storyboard was made before we modified our stimuli, it was nevertheless crucial to our creative process because it appropriately guided us. There was a basic diagram with a description of what was happening when included in the storyboard. This was an important duty to finish because it let us figure out exactly what we wanted to film. Before changing our thoughts on our project, we reasoned that the storyboard, which had everything clearly and visibly planned out, would keep us on task when we began filming our piece. Kate further created a rough design of a reflection image of a puddle with buildings behind it, which was useful for providing us with ideas during the filming process.
