Kyoto Formally known as Heian-kyo, Kyoto was Japan’s capital and the residence of the Emperor from 794 until 1868.

This rich heritage is evident throughout the city, in awe-inspiring temples and shrines that host traditional festivals dating back hundreds of years, and historic neighborhoods where lantern-lit alleyways are lined with original machiya townhouses. Many of these machiya are now home to atmospheric teahouses and sweet shops, or artisan craft workshops where masters hone their skills in pottery, lacquerware, textiles, and other ancient arts.

Kyoto is one of the best places in the country to immerse yourself in traditional Japanese culture. You can take part in an authentic tea ceremony at a historic teahouse, enjoy utterly refined kaiseiki cuisine, learn meditation at a Zen temple, visit an artisan studio to see how local arts and crafts are created, or tour a sake brewery and sample their finest tipple. The old saying that’s there’s something for everyone really proves true in this city.

The city’s appeal doesn’t just lie in the past. Though One of the ten largest cities in Japan, Kyoto is also a hotbed of creativity and modernity. From craft beer brewpubs and hip new cafes to art galleries and small boutiques run by the coolest young designers, Kyoto continues to be at the forefront of Japanese culture and one of the world’s most rewarding destinations.

Made By: Ariell

Class: XI-IPS 2

South Korea has one typical food, namely Jajangmyeon.Jajangmyeon actually comes from Chinese cuisine (Beijing area), namely zhajiangmian, but has a different taste from jajangmyeon from Korea. In Beijing, original jajangmyeon is served with various sauces using more pork than the Korean variation which uses lots of seafood.Jajangmyeon and zhajiangmian also have almost the same sauce composition, but the jajangmyeon sauce is thicker and blacker. Jajangmyeon (or jjajangmyeon) is a type of Korean dish, namely noodles with black soybean paste sauce. Jajangmyeon is influenced by Chinese cuisine, and Chinese people usually call it Zhajiangmian (炸醬麵). Jajang means fried sauce, and myeon means noodles.

Bungeo-ppang (붕어빵; "carp bread") is a fish-shaped pastry stuffed with sweetened red bean paste, which originated from the Japanese taiyaki.[1] One of South Korea's most popular winter street foods,[2][3] the snack is often sold at street stalls, grilled on an appliance similar to a waffle iron but with a fish-shaped mold. Red bean paste is the standard filling but many bungeo-ppang sold as street food are filled with pastry cream (called "choux-bung" as the cream is called "choux-cream" in South Korea), sweet potato, pizza toppings, chocolate, kimchi and others. Usually, it costs about 1,000 won (KRW) for three bungeo-ppang.

Unadon (鰻丼, an abbreviation for unagi donburi, "eel bowl") is a dish originating in Japan. It consists of a donburi type large bowl filled with steamed white rice, and topped with fillets of eel (unagi) grilled in a style known as kabayaki, similar to teriyaki. The fillets are glazed with a sweetened soy-based sauce, called tare and caramelized, preferably over charcoal fire. The fillets are not flayed, and the grayish skin side is placed faced down. Sufficient tare sauce is poured over so that some of it seeps through the rice underneath.

There are two styles of grilled eel, the topic of which is covered more precisely under kabayaki. Essentially, in the Kantō region style, the eel is steamed before being grilled with sauce, which makes the eel more tender. The other is the Kansai region style, which is grilled without steaming.

Una-don was the first type of donburi rice dish, invented in the late Edo period, during the Bunka era (1804–1818) by a man named Imasuke Ōkubo of Sakai-machi (in present-day Nihonbashi Ningyōchō, Chūō, Tokyo), and became a hit in the neighborhood, where the Nakamura-za and Ichimura-za once stood.
