This crochet bag is so anti-modern to me because it is handmade and not some fast fashion copy-paste. It feels unique and kind of imperfect in the best way, which makes it special. To me, it shows how slowing down and making something with your hands will always have more meaning than buying the same thing a million other people have.

Camila Herrera — Clown Self Portrait

For my self-portrait, I wanted to focus on expression and identity. I used clown makeup because it changes how I look, but it also lets me play around with different emotions. It’s kind of funny but also a little unsettling, which is what made me drawn to it. I didn’t really set up a background because I wanted the attention to stay on my face, the makeup, and the accessories. I like how simple it feels, like there’s nothing extra getting in the way. It shows how even something small, like face paint, can completely shift how we see ourselves or how others see us. Taking this photo made me realize how much expression can say, even without words or a background.

Camila Herrera — My First Gadget

My first real personal gadget was my pink Nintendo DS Lite. I was obsessed with it. I used to play Nintendogs, and I had a little dog named Coco who I treated like a real pet. I also played Super Mario Bros with my mom all the time. She would grab the DS from me, and we’d take turns trying to beat levels and yelling at the screen.

I also remember sitting in a circle with all my cousins, and we’d just play for hours. It was technically mine, but everyone used it, and that’s part of why it feels so nostalgic now.

I still have it and it still works. Holding it now makes me think about how simple things felt back then and how excited I used to get over a game. Out of all the tech I’ve had since then, this is the one that stayed with me the most.
