What else I'd like to learn about architecture

I'd like to learn more of the importance of architecture. I took architecture for granted and i would not want to commit that again. I found architecture surprisingly interesting and it got me to think that i could use it one day when designing my company building or my house. I feel like i could use more information to further add a personality to my future buildings and add a certain uniqueness to it.

What I learned on architecture after the module

I learned that architecture was more of just making a building functional, but it is meant to bring out the different sides of a building and give it life. Architecture is what gives building life and i saw this during the discussions and the readings that in each period, the buildings had their specific styles that had their own way of being distinct from one another which also gives it life. Like in modern architecture, some structures have been designed to be one with nature which gives it 4 different personalities when in the 4 different seasons that some countries experience.

What I knew about architecture

Before, architecture to me was just the thought of a design of a structure or building. I knew very little on architecture and i never really bothered on researching or looking it up. I never really saw it as art because to me it was designing of buildings so it was not really like a painting that people can say that it is a work of art. Architecture to me before was simply just the process of designing a building so it would stand when it is built.

The Lotus Temple by Fariborz Sahba showcases a temple that is patterned to the design of a lotus flower in which I admire and would like to visit someday. The lotus temple is built with three layers of petals like a lotus flower, and these three layers correspond to the entrance leaves indicating the entrance to the structure, the outer leaves as the roof of the temple and complimented by the inner leaves which forms the design of the structure as a whole. Like the flower, the leaves do not meet at the top. Instead the top is a skylight made of glass and steel in which the usage of a natural light that compliments with the nature like design and the fields of flowers and ponds surrounding the structure. (Rizor 2011) The usage of concrete and clad Grecian marble showcases the message of purity because of the color of the marble which is white as to what a lotus flower can also symbolize. I think that this temple is beautiful not only because of its design but rather the form and symbolism put into the structure which accurately approaches the nature-like appeal and function of the design which send the correct message.

Source: AD Classics: Lotus Temple / Fariborz Sahba. ArchDaily.
