Cozy World Corner

The Cozy World Corner will be an area of the classroom decorated in different cultural symbols and books regarding information on them. The children can come to this corner anytime they please as long as they are finished with all other work and can chose what they want to read about. There will also be books that will be fun for them to read from authors of different ethnic groups as well.

Welcome in Wall

As soon as you walk through the door, there will be a poster/some kind of sign that is inspirational to the students, faculty, and parents saying that all are welcome and all matter.

Open Seating

My classroom will have fewer desks in it due to having smaller groups, but students are free to choose where they will want to sit and who they want to sit by.

Trying Cultural Food

Once a week, I will try to make sure to bring in 1 new cultural dish that does not violate any allergies that any student might have for them to enjoy. This will be a small portion of the activities my students will do that will help build their appreciation and respect for different cultures.

Presenting Different Cultures

Another activity my students can do is chose a culture to research, spend about a month working on it, and then present it to the class. This allows them to find more connection with the culture and learn about more cultures without breaking too far off from the curriculum that the school board says we have to compelte.

Feeling Safe and Welcome

Every student in my class will feel safe and welcome as soon as they walk through my doors and realize no matter what background they come from or who they are, they are accepted loved.

Educating Students about Multiculture

Sesame street is an amazing show to teach young kids about diversity and inclusion. The different characters getting along to solve problems can help children copy that behavior to do the same in real life.

Teaching Strategies

With Special Education, each student has their own individual plan. What one child needs another might not, so for the whole class I know I will work with them on social interactions and exchanges, but when it comes down the everything else, I will either have to work with the students in groups of 2-3 or individually to follow their IEPs.
