In the article named “Civil Disobedience” the writer explains the struggle of being independent in this codependent world we live in.  “Protesting is true civil disobedience. Yet Henry David Thoreau is rolling in his grave thinking about our “protest.” In “Civil Disobedience,” Thoreau does not “lend [himself] to the wrong which [he condemns].”  What the author means by this is that Thoreau could’ve easily just given up and paid his taxes, conformed & followed the bandwagon. Instead, he chose to be individual and different.

This line from the poem “I celebrate myself and sing myself...” to me, means that he celebrates his uniqueness and even though he may be different than other people, he’s being himself.
