On the average children have mastered most of the distinctive sounds of their first language before they are three years, and have awareness of basic discourse patterns such as conversational turn- taking appear at an even earlier age. Troike and Barto (2017 P 13) By age six children have already mastered first language or multilanguage and understand the grammar of that language. This first language or multi languages may not be well developed at this age. Children continue to build on this language into school age and learn the more complex forms of the language in adulthood.

There is an assumption that children learn languages better than adults learners. There is also the believe that if children start learning a second language when they are young they master the language faster and better.
This assumption does not talk about the fact that at this age children only learn the less complex form of the language. What children acquire at this age is the social language for communication.children at this age learn by imitating the sounds they hear therefore their ascents are like those of native speakers. Penfield and Robert (1959) proposed the Critical Period Hypothesis they claimed that, there is a period during which learners can acquire a second language easily and implicitly and achieve native fluency Ellis (2017 P17).

Lenneberg (1967) A Neurologist, proposed this research by stating that; 1. language is learned in three stages,pre-puberty,puberty,and adult stage.
2.Language capacity can be explained on the basis of biological properties..the development period which language is learned is brief, and can be known as the peak of plasticity or the period at which the brain has the ability to experience change, and then this period ends.
4.Comprehensible input has permanent irreversible effects,if input is deprived at this point there can be permanent effects on the ability to learn a second language.
5. Lateralization happens before the age of puberty. Krashen on the other hand stated that Lateralization happens before age six.Ellis (2018)

Young learners learn the language for a longer period than adults, hence they have native like ascent. Adult learning a second language do not have long period for learning the target language. Most adult second language learners learn the language for a purpose, and for a period of time.
There is no properly defined age limit for acquiring a second language or achieving native ability in the target language.
Older language learners have been found to acquire second language faster and learn complex and more comprehensive input than younger second language learner.
Analytical skills more than age has more effect on the adult second language learner. Adults are more analytical in their thinking than children.Ellis (2017 P 35).
