With nature and the integration of culture or ethnic background due to the leaves and distinct white face paints really embodies wilderness and freedom. Although one may see the barbaric or even tribal way of life through this photo, I can also see the theme of escape and connection to nature and all of its roots. The leaves breaking off the right side of the face appealed to me as it may be symbolic of freedom as leaves drift away. The face paint really makes the photo feel more enticing as it tells a story of heritage as well. The artist used black and white which, although simplistic, makes you picture the color in the photo by means of leaves and a tribal son within the wilderness of life in the lush forest. The lack of color, however, contributed to the quality of this image because the less color it portrays, the more cohesive story-telling this portrait unveils itself.
