My connection:
I chose this image because it caught my eye almost instantly with how the ink makes the photographs look like real paintings. It made it seem unreal to me.

• The subject of Julia’s photographs vary greatly, she does landscape, portraits, nature, architecture, and black and white photography. The majority of her work, however, is street photography.

• The cropping of the wing from the body creates suspense and curiosity, as we don’t know what the wing is attached to.

• The contrast of the wing against the water is stark and the shadows under the wing shows a wide range of hues.

Personal connection:

• I’ve known Julia since middle school and have gotten to see her portfolio expand, she has an extensive collection of her work posted on Instagram if you like to see more of it.

Dora Maar “the years lie in the wait for you (1963)” Is a very interesting image knowing that was taken years ago without any photoshop. She was a photographer for years and was known as Picassos lover. She was the focus of his work called “Weeping Woman”. She wasn’t recognized or her work until many years after her passing.

My connection:

I chose this image because of the way Dora Maar manipulates reality through her photomontage. The surreal elements make the scene feel both familiar and dreamlike, blurring the line between photography and imagination.

A famous quote of his was "If your photographs aren't good enough, you're not close enough."

He died doing photography, he stepped on a landline while accompanying a group in Indochina in 1954, ending his life.

He was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1913.

This photo connects to me because I’ve always loved war and history, and me and my dad would always watch war movies.

Connection: I chose her because I love how diverse she is and how she shows beauty in everyone. She photographs people of all different ages, cultures, and sizes. She also photographs a lot of women and shows a lot of strength and empowerment. Her art personally connects to me because she photographs many Hispanic American women like many I know in my life, I also strongly believe that everyone deserves to feel represented and beautiful in their own way which is why Brittany Bravo caught my eye.

Connection

I was drawn to this photo because the mood. The way the light shines on the leaves gives off a happy, hopeful mood. This photographer frequently took nature photos, and I enjoy both looking and taking nature photos. I think they are very pretty and give off a calming vibe.

• I can connect to his photography since he tends to take pictures of where he goes on his travels, whatever looks interesting or cool to him, which is what I do when I take pictures. I also find this photo in particular interesting, as the story behind the skull is so deep for a photo with so little meaning behind it. Additionally, I’m attracted to this photo in particular since I always photographed the skull in photography 1.

interesting facts:

She uses house hold items. This is done with abstract macro photography. She said dim lighting works best with no flash. She also says that being creating and trying out new techniques is important to produce new ways of seeing pictures. She also says it’s hard to capture the focus.

Connection

This connects to me because I’m about to do a photo with a puddle prompt but I’m going to add oil to try and create and abstract reflection. I was excited to see something like this was possible in photography.

• Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico was taken in 1941. Ansel Adams saw the full moon rising over Hernandez and had only a few minutes to set up his camera and take the picture before the light changed.

• He created a special method called the Zone System to control light and dark areas in his photos. This helped him make his black-and-white pictures very clear and detailed, like Moonrise.

• He loved nature and worked to protect it. He used his beautiful photos to show people how important and fragile nature is.

• He started as a musician until he got his first camera and found himself interested in photography

I really love the moon and space and like taking pictures at night. And the fact he took this picture during night with film camera is so interesting.

when Wolfgang Tillmans took the following photograph, titled Your Dogs in 2008 (see image on top) the experienced and artistic eye could tell a lot more was going on.

The play of light and dark with the shade on the sidewalk, in sharp contrast with its sunny counterpart at the top right. And above all, the composition of the photograph in which the chosen angle results in a curved shape of the two dogs.

The dogs reminds me of the day I went to San Antonio to visit my family and we found this stray dog and she was so scared and skinny she had no home

*Peek photographs flowers because he feels they shows their myriad emotions ranging from melancholy, romance and solitude.

*He created his own garden to try more variation in shapes and color to put in his own personal project, not just in his everyday work.

• His interest in photography started when he was young due to his dads love of photography and from there Peek knew that was his path and furthered his passion ever since.

Connection To Me:

I love his photography because he doesn’t just take photos of flowers but he captures the emotions that are presented with them. Flowers hold so much meaning with their color the way they fade and come back again. And by using something as simple as ink in water and the flower to look even more meaningful with this Smokey look. Ink is one of my favorite ways to create art so I really loved they way he put it together with photography which is a completely different way of art but together create something I have never seen before but definitely would love to try in the future.

*He started growing his own flowers to photograph them which I also love to do. Gardening has been big to me since I was little sharing the experience not with my dad but with my mom and grandma.

2 interesting facts: Griselda San Martin is a Spanish documentary photographer and visual journalist who focuses on the genuine reality along the U.S Mexico border.

She was awarded second place at the gender and justice competition held by the Supreme Court of Mexico, United Nations Women, United Nations Human Rights Of Mexico and several other organizations in November 2014.

Connection: I choose this photographer because recently president trump has been doing massive deportations on migrants. Him doing this has been making migrants feel scared to leave their homes, afraid of being separated from their families. It feels like history is repeating itself. In this picture Griselda San Martin caught a moment of a father on one side of the border and his family on the other side and it’s heart breaking because he hasn’t been able to see them in years.

He decided to go into photography on a whim and later morphed his dream of being a storm chaser into his photography career.

Weingart goes on adventures for his pictures, chasing tornadoes, thunderstorms, and near volcanoes.

I was drawn to this photographer because of the images he showcases. Seeing all the pictures of the night sky, nature and storms really caught my eye. I like that he is an adventurous photographer and how he makes his pictures so unique and eye catching. I an especially drawn to the stars and night sky pictures, I’ve always been interested in the stars and that played a part in me choosing this photographer.

• Lanting’s work has been commissioned frequently by National Geographic where he served as a Photographer-in-Residence.

• He has lived for months with seabirds on isolated atolls in the Pacific Ocean, tracked lions through the African night, and camped among giant tortoises inside a volcano in the Galápagos.

My personal connection to this photographer is his love for nature and animals. I personally love nature because it just makes me feel at peace and calms me down. I’ve always like animals because I think they are cool to watch and interact with.

My personal connection to this photographer is his passion for nature. I developed a deep connection with nature through childhood adventures. The bond I have with nature is very peaceful.
