You can contact us via research-datamanagement@glasgow.ac.uk

Our first idea is around the reasons why some people still don't share data or work openly, despite there being (many) policies in place, with training, support and infrastructure available. We would like to see something done to really delve into the reasons why people don't share, and debunk any myths that still persist (fear of being scooped, thinking that it's a lot of work for no return, too difficult to achieve etc). This might result in a set of case-studies conducted in the three participating insitutions showing why working openly is beneficial, across a range of different research areas and practices.

Hello everyone, I am William Smith from the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow. I have an idea that I think would benefit users of FIB/SEM systems at all three institutions. I would love collaborators to help develop my idea of building a collaborative framework to advance knowledge exchange and sustainable skill sharing between the FIB/SEM facilities at Glasgow/Edinburgh, and St Andrews. The aim would be to create a lasting and impactful connection between the institutions, creating mechanisims to break traditional silos faced by technicians and researchers. Working together, we can share specialist techniques and workflows and improve our specialist training. This would be an excellent opportunity to facilitate collegial collaboration and enhance research at all three institutions. If you would be interested in discussing this further, email me at william.smith@glasgow.ac.uk

Seeking fieldwork contacts at Glasgow and St Andrews - for potential survey distribution on fieldwork leadership experience

Hello, I am Iris Mair, a Chancellor's Fellow at the University of Edinburgh - with one foot in the immunology department and one foot in the ecology department, and a budding curiosity for social sciences perspectives. In co-creation with a fieldwork working group, a leadership coach with background in fieldwork safeguarding, and two artists with enquiry into fieldwork/research practices/mental health, we are developing a project application to a) gather community experience and wisdom on fieldwork leadership (survey), b) dive into major threads in a participatory workshop and c) run an exemplar fieldtrip to engage in situ with these themes, capture reflections through artistic and ethnographic methods, alongside leadership coaching. Our hope is to create a support package through various means to help current and future fieldwork leaders to feel better prepared for the challenges of leading in the field, and to raise awareness for the immense skills acquired and also the mental/emotional load shouldered by often very junior fieldwork leaders, to start conversations around structural/institutional support that may be beneficial. And here comes our question: Are you based at the University of Glasgow or St Andrews and engaged in fieldwork, and ideally within a fieldwork network? We are looking for contacts who would be willing to serve as local distributors of a survey link, so that our project can engage as many fieldworkers as possible. Thank you in advance! Please get in touch via e-mailing me at iris.mair@ed.ac.uk
