While the framework outlines an equal right to water, we learned about a lack of water access for groups who are economically disadvantaged.

The Oregon Water Justice relates a lot to all the topics we covered today including Indigenous rights to water and land, water accessibility, and storm surge preparedness.

I think one of the strengths of the model is focusing on returning the rights to access to indigenous groups and protecting local ecosystems. Indigenous groups have an important historic relationship with local watersheds and waterways and understand the nuances of the systems, and will make sure to preserve their health.

This includes the ecosystem, Indigenous rights, policy, self-sufficiency, and accountability. Wide-ranging frameworks like this one will be really important.

I think natural and built infrastructure for clean water framework is key to many of the water issues which plague the system. It seems to be the root cause of many issues, and is likely biased towards lower income areas, as they are more likely to have less adequate infrastructure. This creates a loop of inequitable water access.

I think that the rooted democracy framework is very relevant to the Flint water crisis which we have learned a lot about in the past few weeks. Both sides of this diagram exemplify important aspects of this crisis. Flint needed better common resource management to better assess how to provide the citizens of flint with water, or figure out how to best avoid using river water instead of lake water. Also, a lot of the issues in flint stem from systemic racism and ignorance of the poor, African-american communities in flint that were most impacted by this crisis.
