PowerPoint will be used for the transformative part of the unit where students use group findings to work collaboratively to prepare an interactive presentation for display on a kiosk in the school foyer. The presentation will provide the students with the opportunity to exercise their right as citizens of the community to critic local council waste management practices. The presentation will use interactive buttons for each regional council, developed by individual groups, to show how other regional councils are managing waste using their landfill models. This will lead to an infographic demonstrating where the local council is positioned compared to other councils.

Thanks to Kelly McDonald and Vikas Mittal for alerting me to the functionality of Padlet as a learning management tool for this unit of work as it provides a range of functionality.

Plan to use Padlet as an interactive online bulletin board for the teacher and students to share ideas and work with each other on the problem-based activity. The Padlet would be used to post revision-based activities as well as post the problem-based activity, the landfill model, the regional council waste strategy and a flow diagram, showing how to access data and populate the model. The students create their own Padlet accounts and post their models on Padlet for comment and review by the teacher and students.

As the students research other council sites, their files or links to websites are placed on Padlet for collaboration with other students. Students are also able to download video and audio onto the site. Students can also use the screencast feature if they have a problem with technology at home for help to resolve. The teacher is also able to post a quick tutorial if they can see that students are struggling.
