School is open for about 3 more months...right..so let's go back now for 2.5 hours a day..ish 2x a week and have 14 total days of learning occur in the remaining 3 months of school. With getting procedures back in place...safety protocols..keeping kids' masks on...social distancing..that 2.5 hours of instructional time was just cut into just about 1-1.5 hours..one or two lessons a day.. not to mention the disruption in the day that is about to occur that these parents may not realize..you just dropped your scholar off at school..turn around it's time to go back. They will not be able to socialize like everyone says or play or eat lunch together..Money talks is what I'm learning. Please let me make it clear..I'm not AFRAID to go back to school...it literally doesn't make sense to do this this far in the school year. #14daysoflearningFTFwithover45daysofDLleftisworthMILLIONS. 🤍When we go back...I'll still bust my butt of course to teach them everything in 2.5 hours..but that was my 100cents. 😂

I have zero fear of going back and would love to be back with the kids. The kids need to be back in school, but the situation is going to be hard for these kids and teachers. Wearing a mask all day, keeping 6 ft from their friends, and using 876 gallons of hand sanitizer is teaching them to be completely fearful of this. None of it makes any sense but it hasn't since the beginning with all the lies about COVID. I would be fine going back normal with some hand washing. People NEED GERMS to have an immune system. These poor kids have been roped into this mindset of having to wash hands every two minutes and staying away from each other in fear they may get someone sick. It's so sad. I hope we have some plans to teach real health and how they can keep their immune systems healthy by what they eat and being active. Wearing a mask, using sanitizer, and getting vaccines is not promoting health.

Ok. We can go back to school, but the procedures may be a nightmare to adjust to for just a few weeks of school. I am going to focus on teaching and I am not going to be a police officer regarding masks, hand sanitizers and 6ft. social distancing. I can't control germs. I can't control most things only my own attitude. I will be happy to be present at school and to teach my heart out.

Procedures-- nighmare... yes. The setup, all the dirty details, that parents are unaware of... it's all messy. Unfortunatly, we are caught in a political quandary. Cases are down, businesses are opening... normal is returning. The president and governor are pressing schools to return. Our governor has even offered a massive financial incentive to get students back on campus. With a vaccinne, safety concerns should be allayed. So, the reasons we don't want to return are all VERY well articulated in other posts here. The sad reality is.... teachers are carrying much of the blame for not returning. Many parents want kids back, many politicians want them back... and now our board wants them back. We are caught in the middle... and it's not a battle worth fighting. Going back will be difficult and uncomfortable for kids and teachers, but it needs to happen.

I think that going back is going to me a big disruption in the flow of learning that we have established. I understand the need to go back for some, but it is going to be a huge change for kiddos, and I am worried about the learning loss. We are teachers, and we will do what is needed, but I do worry about how it is all going to go down. Worried about tons of the procedures and how that will all work. Also, what do we do when we get the sniffles? Or my husband gets the sniffles? Or my son gets the sniffles? Do we have to have a sub? More learning loss. The amount of learning loss is my biggest concern.

I know I'm JUST a sub, No union to cover, no real input, only temp if you will...but in regards to reopening I have MANY concerns. As it is, I am both DL teaching and DL parenting for my 3 kiddos. IF sites reopen, because my husband is working, I would pretty much be forced to then bring my kids back to campus, and do what I'm doing now but add to that 2 different cohorts of other kiddos. Without a proper plan, I'm not confident in that. Everyone mentioned SEL, and I see that, I know that it IS important, but as Veik mentioned what about our emotional support? What about my kiddo who has asthma and has heard for a year now that people with underlying conditions (such as asthma) need to be most cautious...What about the kiddos who have lost loved ones during this time and aren't ready to return? On the other end of the spectrum, what about the kiddos who have bonded and shown extreme academic growth with their current teacher, and are now threatened with the possibility of "losing" said teacher if their path choices do not correlate?
What about inclement weather (and we have had PLENTY)? What about general sniffles and health challenges that are NOT covid related, but AS A SUB, if you don't work you don't get paid?

I would LOVE to come back!

SAFELY.

We are not ready. Val Verde doesn’t have a solid plan the way other districts do. Riverside had students and teachers decide between distance learning and in-person learning so that they would not disrupt the instructional pathways of our students (not to mention the bonds that are formed). That’s just the START of the diligence they took to prepare for the possibility to reopen. With the amount of meticulous planning that went into reopening other districts, I am in an awe of the amount of unanswered questions there are in this district when it comes to safely reopening.

I couldn’t agree more with EVERYTHING Ms. Thomas expressed, as a parent with a child with an at-risk health condition, as parent whose children are learning and happy with distance learning, as a teacher and someone who’s husband is a substitute teacher. I’m so with you!
