My name is Chrystal Burkes, and I am the Library and Media Specialist at an elementary school in Bryant, Arkansas. Before becoming a teacher librarian, I taught in an elementary literacy classroom for eight years. I started my Flipgrid journey while in the classroom, so transitioning its use in the library was an easy one.

In this #gridguide, I will share ideas and resources to using Flipgrid to communicate and enhance students' love of literacy and open up discussions about becoming responsible digital citizens. Although these field notes are focused on library use, these notes can be used in a literacy classroom as well! (That's where I started!) PLEASE share your ideas and resources with me as we go on this Flipgrid journey together. I can keep these field notes up to date!

World Read Aloud happens every school year! Celebrate reading a book aloud by having students and teachers read part of a book/chapter/page/etc aloud for others to hear. With this Flipgrid topic, teachers can share this out on World Read Aloud Day (I believe the date is usually Feburary 1st, but check litworld.org/wrad for the date each year) and have students celebrating reading by reading out loud! You can enhance this topic further by encouraging students to respond to other students and asking them questions about the book they read aloud... maybe they will find a new book they would like to check out from the library!

I had students do this activity all week long in the library prior to World Read Aloud Day. Follow her on Twitter by clicking here!

We teach students in the media center the importance of being safe online. One of those components is how to create a strong password. After teaching students Digital Citizenship lessons, ask students to discuss what is necessary to create a secure password. Students may respond with answers such as lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, symbols, and at least 8 characters. Or they may discuss the need to keep their password private.

Click on the link below to add Natalie's topic directly to one of your grids today!

Share it with everyone. Don’t give away the endings! Need a new book to read? Browse the videos of books your classmates have read.

I add genres as topics in my Book Looks grid. Students read books and share their thoughts. By having them divided up by genres student can also search for a book their classmates are recommending.

Want to add her topic to one of your grids today?
