Diane is a character depicted as an ambitious, young, dependent and talented woman with a strong personality. As it is mention in the first chapter of the book, she is twenty years old and she often calls her mother to ask for money, since she doesn't have a job and she has the ability to sing really well, but she doesn't want to pursue that dream. She has never got a job. She is driven by material wealth and personal success, often putting her own desires before those of others. Diane’s relationship with her family, particularly her mother Molly, is strained due to her selfish nature.

She is portrayed as someone who is willing to manipulate situations, as it is ilustrated in chapter seven when she was being interview by Inspector Walsh and he said that Diane blackmailed her mother every month to take money from her saying you killed my daddy. and as an impulsive person, because when she was accused of killing Molly many times along the reading, she tended to overeact and to storm out ot the situations.
