1.6 Who am I , First experience with Race & Sense of Self Brainstorm:

PROMPT 1:
1) Who am I ? I’m 23 years old currently working as a medical assistant,In school to pursue a career in nursing.
2)Who do I pretend to be ? I personally don’t pretend to be anyone by myself.
3)Who do people think I am? Based on my demeanor people assume I’m either mean or stuck up and that comes from how I carry myself but in reality I’m friendly, outspoken and a nice person.
4)Who do I wish I could be ? I don’t wish to be anyone but myself I just want a good and successful future for myself.
5)How has race or ethnic identity played a role in any of these responses ? Race nor ethnic identity played a role in any of my responses but I would say as African American working in the health care field I would always have to go above and beyond in doing my work to show that I’m worthy of being there .
PROMPT 2:
- I’ve personally haven’t dealt with race in my life yet ,maybe It will cross my path one day in the future and if I ever come across that I’m sure this class would help me prepare for that.
PROMT 3:- I don’t think a person that has a negative view of their sense of self can have a positive sense of ethnic identity because how would they know who they are if they have a negative way of thinking.
-I think someone who identifies positively with AA Psychology will have a stronger sense of self or ethnic identity because they are aware of who they are personally and also would know how to go about certain situations if it would ever come down to it just by studying on how other people would think of us.

Theory 1: 1)I do think that ubantu is still alive and well today in African American culture but I feel as if its not used in today's society our people need help on remembering or studying up on our past to deal with the crisis and issues today.
Ex: kidnapping, police brutality, jail for wrongfully convicted.
2)The concept of ubantu has changed my worldview because Americans are not that giving and accepting & welcoming as Africans ,African cultures are all about helping respect ,sharing, community coming together as one and American culture is basically fight for yourselves not coming together to help each other at all and that is sad.

In the African American community the concept that is mostly present is Maafa. Maafa means enslavement of African people.I have witness and plenty of other people witnessed numerous African Americans go to jail the concept is shown every single day either on social media, news or in person. The least concept that is present is Sankofa which menas looking back to go forward.I feel as if most people don't look at the past mistakes they just move forward and repeat those same mistakes in order to move ahead. Ex: Repeating & failing a test multiple times and getting the same answers wrong as before you have to go back and study the wrong answers to get them right & go forward.
