There is very complicated backstory; you see, this crew was plundering a village. But then, soldiers arrived. The pirates had to act fast, so they took a police officer and firefighter hostage while running back to there ship. But, the soldiers were one step ahead of them, and blew up the pirate ship. The pirates had to escape, so they took the nearest vessel; a old viking ship. They sailed out quickly, promising to return for the rest of the treasure. And that brings us to the scene in front of you.
