They didn't dress nicer, or do their hair because they thought it was just a phone call. She also wasn't as excited to see him as much as she thought she should be. "I didn't want to go. All I wanted was to run away, run back to Abuelita Chinta's house, faraway rom him"(Grande, pg. 143). If I was reunited with my father, who I had never met before, I would probably be excited at such a young age, but confused. Why return now? This is after years and years of just looking at him as the "man behind the glass" which is referring to the picture frame that he is in. After meeting him, Reyna soon realizes that he is not how she thought he would be like. He is argumentative and abusive, which destroys her motivation and desire to continue living a joyful life in "El Otro Lado".
