Obviously all the districts have great statements but Tahoma spoke to helping students be viable successful individuals in whatever they choose to do, which is something that I value as an person. My aunt lived in Maple Valley and told me I should apply for a math/science/football coach position in the Tahoma School District. I hadn't heard of the school district. But in the last five years or so the draw to work in the community I live in has increased as well as my desire to be a part of the education that my own kids experience here. The district's focus and priority on mental health was another reason I felt TSD was a place I wanted to call home. I've heard many great things about the staff and support at MVMS from friends and community members, so when a counseling position opened, I was very excited to apply. I had the opportunity to interview with Maple View early May, and that interview was my first teaching interview ever. My entire experience with that interview was amazing, even though I did not get that job in May. I received wonderful, thoughtful, and supportive feedback. After I had other interviews I was called back by Bill for a second interview in July and felt so thankful for the second opportunity and knew I ended up right where I was supposed to be. I moved here from Hawaii 3 years ago and there was a big focus on being part of one big community and taking care of one another and Tahoma’s values resonates with a lot of my values.  I want to be part of a community where I can use my experiences to create positive influence with students where they can come back years later and give back to their community.

I was able to make a cool video back in the day of my instruction and it was required for employment so Tahoma must be good...right? This was back in 1998 and I have been here since! My wife was an elementary teacher in Kent and we didn't know how she was going to get to her work. The people involved in the Tahoma School District have so much love and pride for the schools, the people, and the students. There are unique opportunities to work with deeply passionate people who have so much expertise to share and the whole district is committed to helping support students in becoming good, thoughtful, creative thinkers who have the skills to really impact the world in a positive way. Being part of Tahoma feels like being part of a larger purpose, the same purpose that drives most of us into teaching as a profession.
