When you move through this gallery I hope that you move through a story. All our stories are different but we have things in common that I am trying to express in this museum/my display.
We start in the waiting room, busy, crowded, and chaotic. Then we move to the actual stay or hospital visit, the feeling of loneliness, the distrust of doctors in masks, the feeling of longing to go home. Then coping with the fact afterward that you weren't listened too, overlooked, not important enough of a case that they brushed you off. Finally, coping with the trauma you've been through, baring your issues to someone just to be turned away. The doctor smoking while about to inject the cigarette, the priest holding a head, and the skeleton getting a blood transfusion. "Colescott has addressed social issues, particularly racial stereotypes, through narrative figuration. The fetal position being held, the grotesque use of wax and almost dewy look to the figure, the look of being left unattended to for a long period of time. It speaks volumes on what it can be like for some people to be vulnerable about their habits, life, and medical history with perhaps a nurse, physicians assistant, or doctor. And how truly scary and invading that can be. One wants to stab him with a large needle, the other is pulling what seems to be his intestines out of his body.
