Apparently the devil was recurrent witches, warlocks, and wizards. The only way to find these people, were only by teen girls. These accusations were very put out towards people out of the blue. These things were as common as a cellphone today. He was also married to Marilyn Monroe, one the most beautiful women of that time. He was accused of being a communist,  and was put on trial, his response "Your Crazy". Which is a large accusation due to the fact that essentially your life was ruined based on an accusation that may be false. While it was almost not being watched by anyone during that time it is appreciated now. The reason it wasn't adored in the past is because if you were seen watching it, people assumed you were a communist. The naming behind the crucible is that the impurities would be melted out by the heat of the crucible.
