Katniss Everdeen lives in a place called District 12 in what was once North America. She lives in a part called the seam with her mom and sister. Food is scarce and her family is often left to starve among other families.

Call To Adventure

Every year 24 tributes, 1 boy and 1 girl from each district between the ages of 12-18, are drawn from a bowl and sent to the capital and offered as tribute to fight to the death in what is known as The Hunger Games, a punishment put on the districts to pay for the war. It is time for the 74th annual Hunger Games. It is Katniss's 12 year old sister Prim's first time being put into the bowl. The reaping comes and everyone stands nervously, waiting to see who will be picked. The district 12 escort, Effie Trinket, stands on the stage excited. She first draws the name for the girls. To the Everdeen family's dread, Prim is called. Katniss volunteers in her place so that her sister won't have to compete.

Refusal To The Call

The boy tribute from District 12, Peeta Mellark, tries to make friends/allies with Katniss. Katniss doesn't trust him and doesn't wan't to be friends with him because of that. She is very weary of him.

Meeting The Mentor

Every tribute gets a mentor. The mentor's are past winning tributes from their district. District 12 has only ever had 2 winners. Only one is still alive. His name is Haymitch Abernathery. He won the 50th Hunger Games. His family was executed after the games, because he wouldn't comply with President Snow. He now is an alcoholic, and he isn't a very good mentor. Katniss and Peeta meet him, and they are not happy. They get mad and eventually get him to promise that will stay sober enough to help them as much as he can.

Crossing The Threshold

Katniss finally arrived at the Capital. She and Peeta were escorted into the tribute center, so that they can get cleaned up for their stylist. Katniss's stylist name is Cinna. He gets her ready for the Chariot Ride, the Interview, and The games. All the Tributes are then held in the tribute center to train until the games, where they have access to luxuries that they don't have at home.

Allies, Trials, and Enemies

Katniss goes into training. In training, you can make allies and enemies. You also have a lot of trials and tribulation. Before entering the games, she has no allies. She does have some enemies. She is enemies with the career districts, Districts 1, 2, and 4. She does make allies while in the games. She also struggles to get the attention of the overviewers, giving them their ratings for the public.

The Supreme Ordeal

Katniss eventually goes in for her rating. She decides to show off her archery skills to the judges. She takes the first shot and misses. The judges laughed at her and stopped paying attention. She shot again and got a bullseye. The judges were not paying attention. To get their attention, she shot an arrow in a apple, that was in the mouth of the roast pig they were eating. The judges were shocked. Katniss walked out without being dismissed. She and others were worried she was going to get a low score. She ended up with the highest score of 11 out of 12. This actually put a bigger target on her back.

Reward

Since Katniss got such a high score, she received sponsors. Sponsors are people in the capital who send gifts to their favorite tributes. They can also place bets on people and people placed bets on Katniss. The gifts help Katniss throughout the games. Without her gifts, Katniss would have died early on due to a wound.

The Road Back

The game makers announced that 2 tributes from the same district can both win. Katniss finds Peeta and they become allies. They struggle to stay alive, but manage until there is only a few tributes left. Katniss gets into a fight with the girl from district 2, Clove, who almost eliminated her. Clove then got attacked by the district 11 boy, who let Katniss go for helping his 12 year old District partner, even after she passed. Katniss and Peeta make it to the final three. It is them and the district 2 boy. They fight at the cornucopia, and he gets eaten by mutts. This leaves just Katniss and Peeta. Katniss and Peeta pretend that they are going to eat poisinus nightlock berries, after the game makers announced that there could only be one winner. The gamemakers stopped them before they at them and they both one. That was the first time that two people won the Hunger Games.

Return With Prize

Katniss and Peeta do another interview after their win. The crowd is in aw with the "Star Crossed Lovers". They go back home bringing back their winnings. They both each get a house in Victors Village, money from the capital for life, food, and supplies for them and their district.
