The Cold War was an interesting type of war. The definition of a war is "a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state.", but withe the cold war, there was no armed combat between the US and USSR. It was a global competition between the cold countries.

In the end, Vietnam fell to communism. The US and South Vietnam had a good fight, but the use of its terrain and guerrilla war tactics the North was able to take over. The war severely took a toll on Vietnam's population. According to the BBC, "The war killed an estimated 2 million Vietnamese civilians, 1.1 million North Vietnamese troops and 200,000 South Vietnamese troops." The war also took a staggering toll on the US's economy.

Surrogate/Proxy Wars played a big role in the Cold War. The multi-decade long war still fascinates historians and people to this day, from it's major competitions for government, and to the conflicts it managed to avoid, but in the midst of it all the two superpowers still found ways to fight indirectly. The Surrogate Wars were a way for both countries to fight and without them, the Cold War could have been a whole lot deadlier.
