Her personal experience is helping her find her voice and show the desperate need for gun control within the United States.

This photograph comes from the Women's March held in Washington D.C. This march took place in September 2017. It was a protest advocating women having control over their own bodies, rather than having decisions made for them by the government. About 4 million women showed up and marched for hours. I chose this quote from "Letter from Birmingham Jail" written by Martin Luther King Jr., because it shows the basis for why women are marching for rights over their selves. Women were promised to have control of their bodies, but this promise was broken as some politicians decided to have things like abortion illegal. As an answer to that issue and many others, women took direct action by marching.

This picture shows a group of African-Americans being assaulted by police officers with a fire hose. The quote from Martin Luther King Jr. shows that African-Americans are being told to wait for equal rights, but if they are being oppressed more and more harshly, then action is necessary. I chose this picture because it accurately portrays the oppression that African-Americans have faced throughout history, even when they participate in non-violent protests and other movements that do not harm others. The oppression not only affects and destroys the people who are oppressed, but it also damages future generations and their view of America, which is why I chose a quote talking about children to go with the picture demonstrating open oppression

This photograph depicts a crow flying above a bald eagle. This is significant because the bald eagle is a symbol for America, but right above it is the black bird, which one may associate with Jim Crow, a symbol for Black people. MLK's quote explains that well before the Eagle took flight--upon the Jefferson's writing of the Declaration of Independence--the Crow flew higher. Blacks were a part of the land, or in this case the sky, before American values. To take it one step further, the fact that the crow flies over the eagle could suggest that MLK's white audience values the crow, or the African American's suppression in society, over the Eagle--the contradictory rights that America founded itself on.

This photo depicts the march from Selma to Montgomery lead by MLK which demanded a change on voting rights and segregation in schools. The quote states that the people of that generation need to not try to cover up the hateful words of the oppressors, but allow for the oppressed to speak and demand the necessary changes. The silence of those who didn't demand such a change would hold back the generation as much as the hateful words of the enemies would. The words from the letter are often still relevant today; when change is needed, voices have to heard over the silence or hateful disapproval. In this photo, the marchers are displaying how they are using their voices and bodies to demand change.

The small picture in the top left hand corner shows young African Americans being harassed by white police men. Then the picture in the middle shows three young white teenager boys who are striking against the attendance of African American kids in their school. Then the quote I chose is "Daddy, why do white people treat colored people to mean." This quote pair perfectly with these pictures because is shows the awful treatment that not only grown white adults have on African American kids but the treatment of kids the same age. The Image shows students walking to protest the multiple school shootings that have occurred in the past few years. Their persistent fighting to get their voices out in the open, and release their message to the world. These young students have increased the tension on this situation and will be the reason the problem of gun violence will be uprooted.

Some people like that he protects the city while others question the actual good he does for them. The quote I chose connects with this picture because MLK is also just a man with no extraordinary superpowers, but finds a away to help people. Some of the people in Birmingham question the actual good MLK can do for them, but MLK looks past their doubts and continues to help them.

This image and quote explains how Martin Luther King Jr. is a prophet for freedom, just like the Apostle Paul. He speaks of how Paul left his town to spread the word of Jesus Christ and freedom. Just like him, King is leaving his own town to spread his words of freedom. In this image it is comparing the two both king and Paul, and you can see how even though they lived hundreds of years apart, neither were afraid to leave their town and spread their words of freedom to the world. Through this, they were able to feel like an insider no matter how far from home they were.

Women were not allowed to attend school to recieve an education, and Malala strongly believed she should receive an education. I chose to pair this photo of her and this quote, because the "anxiety" refers to her being shot in the head for rebelling against the law that did not allow women to recieve an education. And the second quote explains that there are times when rebellion is necessary because laws are unjust.
