When, Where, Who? :

The production is going to be on the 24th of February and will be held in-house in the studio in the day.

All level 3 musical theatre students will be participating in this performance.

Limitations:

Our budget isn't going to be very big so we'll have to use clothes we already have or borrow from the college. And we're going to have to use a few microphones for all of us instead of having mics for each of us. So projection will be needed in group singing numbers such as potiphar!

Andrew Lloyd Webber has written and composed many musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats. Starlight Express and Evita. His musicals have been performed on both West end and broadway.

His company, the RUG ( Really Useful Group) is one of the largest theatre operators in London.

Film adaptations have also been made of some of his musicals, for example School of Rock was developed into a film, starring Jack Black

For our charity evening, we will need to think about how our set will look and what we want our costumes to be. We will be able to start designing everything in the weeks leading up to our performance.

We have now decided that instead of having a collection of images throughout the whole performance as a backdrop, we are just going to use a projector so we can have different images for each number.

As for costumes, we plan to wear things suited to the character of story. For example, in the starlight express overture song that I'm in, we'll all be wearing black leotards with tights and black shorts over the top.
Each of us will be wearing different coloured leg warmers because we're warming up for a race.
This costume choice is simple but effective and won't take the focus off of the boy singing at the beginning of the song

Key Characters and their backgrounds

One key character in our show is Evita. This story wasw based on the real life story of Eva Peron!
Eva was a film actress who was born in Argentina in 1919. She married Juan Peron, the Argentine president, in 1945 and became the first lady of Argentina in 1946!
She was given the title of 'spiritual leader of the nation' shortly after her death in 1952 when she lost her battle with cancer, she was only aged 33!

Background context to numbers

In our Evita medley dances, we are dancing to Buenos Aires and high, flying adored which outline two very different parts of the musical.
In Buenos Aires, Evita is keen to become a star and convinces a man to take her to Buenos Aires to find her fame.
And then in high, flying adored, Chè singing about Evita, saying that everybody love you now, but you didn't get to where you are in the most nicest way!

In the song Potiphar, Potiphar has an Egyptian servant name Joseph. Mrs Potiphar tries to charm Joseph but he declines her advances because he doesn't believe in free love and knows that she doesn't really love him.

We have now taken out the think of me scene and the second starlight express number. For the think of me scene we hadn't rehearsed anything, and the starlight express number hadn't been fully thought out so we cut both of those numbers

Above we have written out what each individual costume will be for each number. We have had to consider the arrangement of the numbers, we ensured that no one is going to have to do a quick change because we won't have time.

This is the staging we have decided on for our performance. There will be a board at the back of the stage and then two small boards stage left and right. We can use each of these as points of entry when the lights come up for a number.
in my duet called 'you must love me' the two dancers will use the side boards to hide behind half way through our song and then reappear again.
And for example, we have thought about having two throne like chairs for Potiphar, they will have to be placed in front of the two side boards because we have limited stage space.

We did a mind map on the whiteboard of everything that we could think of to do with ALW.
Doing this helped us visualise our ideas and thoughts, so we could start discussing and developing possible songs and dances we could use.

Resources required to stage the show:

There are various different resources we will need in order to carry out our performance.
We will need costumes for all numbers. Some decisions on costume will be up to individuals if they are doing a solo or duet. Also, some items of clothing everyone already has such as shirts and trousers.

We will also need props and set made or bought. For potiphar, two chairs will be used, one for Potiphar and the other one for Mrs Potiphar. And for herods song, a chair with wheels will be used so Jesus can be moved around on it.
Two or three Microphones will be needed, one placed on either side of the stage and one in the middle, all as close to the audience as possible.

Media such as our pictures for each number to be projected have been put together on a slideshow so each one can be played one after the other. And all the soundtracks needed for each number have been put on a playlist so they can be played when needed on the show night.
Also, lighting cues have been written out so James our technician, knows what lights we need for each number.

Stage hands will be needed to take props on and off the stage. We will most likely ask a few of the actors to help us with this.

Lastly we will need around 50 chairs for the audience to sit on whilst watching our performance.

On this day at college we all decided we would come in earlier than usual so we could get some extra rehearsing in.
So at 9:30, we were all in a smaller room than the main studio because there was a lesson being held in there. There was just enough space for us to practice though, we mainly just went through individual solos or duets because not everyone had arrived yet, so we thought we'd go through the group numbers when everyone was in college.

Then at 1 o'clock after we had had our lunch break, we continued rehearsing.
On the picture to the right (above) we were given our timetable for Monday, the performance day, we all agreed to come in early Monday morning as well!

We did a full run through and focused on numbers that needed working on such a Potiphar, which you can see us rehearsing on the right (below) .
We also sorted out staging and lighting. When we come in Monday morning we will continue rehearsing to perfect everything ready for performing it to an audience later that evening.

We will be using songs from Starlight Express, Tell me on Sunday, The beautiful game, Joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, Evita and Jesus Christ Superstar.
