Karen Parra:
Thanks for your explanation, according to what I understood the words are related to the concepts through the images or context, it is the easiest way to relate it to the concept. Since according to the physical we understand the linguistic and in what way we can use it. You gave very good examples where you relate the sign to the sifnified, which makes it easier for the mind to understand what it is.

1. Milena Acosta:
partner I agree with appreciation,
I find the type-token relationship useful since it is the assimilation of images with what it means, that is, in Saussure's words it relates the signifier with the meaning, it is interesting because this allows us to know exactly what is being talked about. The way in which the concepts are expressed in different languages should be checked and aligned to our language to try to relate them to the concepts that already exist.

Dainer Bonilla:
We have to recognize that language is the most effective instrument to communicate, therefore, words represent an image that can be shared in all languages even if the words to define it are different. This is because in any language the image shares the same characteristics.

An example of how the semantic space is divided differently across languages is the word “cerdo” used in Spanish to refer to the animal in the field and the meat on the plate. In English we find two different words to refer to this animal; “pig” for the animal and “pork” for the meat.

Finally, according to Saussure, the two parts of a sign are the signifier and the signified. The former refers to the words used to express the meaning of something, whereas the latter refers to the image drawn in our mind.

Dainer Bonilla:
I think the intention of the words does shape our thinking. The words we use to refer to certain situations can have both positive and negative influences on our thinking.

The positive side of this is that through the emphasis we give to our words we can convey our ideas more clearly, but, on the other hand, it can have the opposite effect, i.e. cause a negative and problematic effect.

From my point of view, words always influence human thought because they have the power to transmit messages of free interpretation.

2. Milena Acosta
That's partner, the universe that contains each word is unique for each language and therefore there are words that are untranslatable for other languages, this is known as a lexical gap. If in one language there is no word equivalent to a word that exists in another, it is not because of a characteristic defect of the languages, but because their speakers have not felt the need to name these concepts, they have not shown interest in lexicalizing them or spreading words that denote these notions. The non-existence of a word to designate a concept in a language does not mean that this expression is not important for the speakers or that they do not conceive or recognize it as such.

Dainer Bonilla:
It’s true, children learn by associating words with images or figures, but in the beginning they tend to generalize. For example, my two-year-old niece tends to term mango all fruits because mango is the fruit she likes the most. So, she associates the sweet taste of the fruit with the mango.

I’ve had to face type-token mismatches and it’s been difficult to establish communication because although the other people know and understand what they are talking about I’m reading their words in another way and I’ve had to stop the conversation to ask for more details in order to understand what they really want to mean.

I think that the type-token relationship is useful in helping us to communicate with each others because through this we can establish exactly the concept we want to express, taking into account both the signifier and the significant.
