The three case study examples, Trina, Ian and Antonio were all children of color, and the criminal justice system decided that they were dangerous. They were all survivors of poverty and abuse, but the system did not care. It didn’t matter if all three were traumatized, it mattered that they hurt people, or intended to. Everyone should have the right to a fair trial, and these three human beings did not. They were children who were charged as adults for crimes that happened either by accident, or they were forced to. Their background meant nothing to the courts system. The courts just figured that they were dangerous because of race and sentenced them all the life in prison without parole. The Criminal Justice System is supposed to be fair and just, but towards minorities and people in poverty, it is not fair and just. Especially towards children. This shows that we can’t fully trust the people who are supposed to protect us. The ones who are supposed to treat us like human beings, but that is untrue for most minorities.
