2) HADITH SAHIH AL-BUKHARI

• 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) saying, "The reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended”.

1) Prayer (solat)

• Surah Al-Baqarah,verse 43

• This verse highlights the command to establish prayer as one of the main obligations in Islam.

2) Fasting

• Surah Al-Baqarah,verse 183

• Fasting is obligatory for Muslims, as it was for earlier communities, with the objective of instilling piety and self-discipline.

• Concessions are given to the sick, travelers, and those who face genuine hardship, allowing them to make up for missed fasts or pay fidyah.

• The month of Ramadan is special because it is when the Quran was revealed, and fasting during this month is a divine command.

• The focus of fasting is on facilitating ease, not hardship, and fostering gratitude and worship towards Allah.

3) Zakat

• Surah At-Taubah,verse 109

• Zakat is an obligation prescribed by Allah for all eligible Muslims.

• Its purpose is to purify wealth and assist the needy, such as the poor, debtors, and other eligible categories.

• Reward for zakah is with Allah, and it signifies gratitude and submission to Him.

• Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam, standing alongside prayer as a key act of worship.

4) Pilgrimage (Hajj)

• Al-Baqarah,verse 197

• Hajj is obligatory for every Muslim who is physically and financially able to perform it at least once in their lifetime.

• It must be performed with sincerity and for the sake of Allah alone.

• Allah emphasizes piety, patience, and discipline during Hajj by prohibiting sinful acts and encouraging good deeds.

• Hajj has a universal significance, uniting Muslims from all over the world in worship and obedience to Allah.

  
  

5) Tahajjud & Fajr Prayer

• Al-Isra’,verse 76-86

• Fajr Prayer:

  • It is one of the five obligatory prayers and is referred to as “Qur’an Al-Fajr” in the Quran. It holds a special status because it is witnessed by angels.

• Tahajjud Prayer:

  • It is a highly recommended optional prayer, performed at night after sleeping.

  • Tahajjud brings spiritual rewards, such as closeness to Allah and the promise of the praiseworthy station (Maqam Mahmudah).

1) Al-Ta’ah (Submission/Loyalty)

• Salah teaches total submission to Allah (SWT).

• Through khusyu’ in Salah, a believer acknowledges Allah’s supremacy, submits to His commands, and shows loyalty to Him alone.

• Surah Luqman (31:13) warns against shirk (associating partners with Allah), reminding us to submit only to Allah with sincerity and devotion.

2) Al-Jihad (Struggle in the Path of Allah SWT)

• Salah with khusyu’ is a form of spiritual jihad, where the believer struggles against distractions, desires, and laziness to maintain focus and devotion to Allah.

• It represents the inner struggle to achieve sincerity in worship and improve one’s relationship with Allah.

• Surah Luqman (31:17) encourages striving in enjoining good, forbidding evil, and being patient—core elements of spiritual jihad.

3) Muhasabah (Reflection)

• Salah provides a moment for muhasabah (self-accountability and reflection), allowing believers to evaluate their deeds, intentions, and closeness to Allah.

• The act of seeking forgiveness and contemplating the verses of the Qur’an during Salah leads to self-improvement and spiritual growth.

• Surah Luqman (31:16) emphasizes accountability, reminding us that even the smallest deed is known to Allah and requires self-reflection.

4) Iffah (Modesty/Self-Restraint from Sinful Behavior)

• Salah instills iffah, or self-restraint, by constantly reminding the believer of Allah’s presence and the consequences of sinful behavior.

• With khusyu’, Salah serves as a barrier against indecency and immorality, as mentioned in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:45): “Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing.”

• Surah Luqman (31:18-19) advises humility, avoiding arrogance, and walking on the earth modestly—traits developed through Salah.

5) Tawaddu’ (Humility/Humbleness)

• Khusyu’ in Salah cultivates tawaddu’, as the act of bowing and prostration reminds believers of their dependence on Allah.

• It instills a sense of humility, teaching one to abandon pride and arrogance.

• Surah Luqman (31:18-19) warns against arrogance and commands speaking with gentleness, walking humbly, and avoiding boastfulness, which are reflections of true humility nurtured through Salah.

1. Definition of Sawm:

Fasting means abstaining from food, drink, and marital relations from dawn to sunset with the intention of worshiping Allah. It is meant to help Muslims develop Taqwa (God-consciousness), as mentioned in 2:183:

“Fasting is prescribed for you… so that you may become righteous.”

2. Purpose and Rules:

• Fasting is a spiritual practice for self-control and reliance on Allah.

• It was also prescribed for earlier communities (2:183).

• People who are sick or traveling can skip fasting and make it up later or feed the poor instead (2:184).

• Eating, drinking, and marital relations are allowed at night during Ramadan (2:187).

The Virtues of Sawm (Fasting):

1. Sabr (Patience and Forbearance):

• Fasting teaches self-discipline, patience, and control over desires.

• It helps develop endurance to face life’s challenges.

2. Rahmah (Empathy and Compassion):

• Fasting helps believers understand the struggles of the poor and hungry.

• It encourages kindness, charity, and sharing, especially during Ramadan.

• Muslims strengthen their bonds through acts like sharing Iftar and giving to the needy.

1. Pillar of Islam: Zakah is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, making it a fundamental religious obligation for eligible Muslims.

2. Purpose: It purifies wealth, promotes economic justice, and helps the less fortunate, ensuring wealth is distributed fairly in society.

3. Eligibility (Nisab): A Muslim must pay zakah if their wealth exceeds a minimum threshold (nisab), which is equivalent to 85 grams of gold or 595 grams of silver.

4. Rate and Assets: The standard zakah rate is 2.5% on savings, gold, business profits, and other qualifying assets, but different rates apply to agricultural produce, livestock, and minerals.

5. Recipients (Asnaf): The Quran (9:60) specifies eight categories of eligible recipients, including the poor, needy, debt-ridden, and those striving in the cause of Allah.

6. Annual Obligation: Zakah is due once a year on wealth that has been in one’s possession for a full lunar year.

7. Difference from Sadaqah: Zakah is a compulsory act of worship, whereas sadaqah (charity) is voluntary and can be given at any time.

8. Spiritual Benefits: Paying zakah purifies wealth, fosters gratitude, removes greed, and strengthens community bonds.

9. Economic Impact: It helps reduce poverty, supports economic stability, and promotes social welfare by redistributing wealth.

10. Payment Methods: Zakah can be given directly to recipients or through trusted charitable organizations that ensure proper distribution.
