Impacts:
It has provided us with a tool that can be used to quickly communicate a message.

Systems Model:
  • Input: Wood, graphite, eraser
  • Process: Pushing pencil to surface
  • Output: Effectively communicated message

Engineering Failures:
The original idea for the pencil consisted of 2 twigs tied around a piece of graphite. This was unstable and the graphite continually fell out leading to the innovation of wrapping the wood completely around the graphite. Eventual, an eraser was added to provide a convenient way to modify a message.

Systems Model:
  • Input; Metal, plastic, rubber, fabric, copper, glass
  • Process: Putting every part together and driving the car
  • Output: Driving from point A to point B

Engineering Failures:
The original idea of the car was to get from one place to another quicker than horse and buggy. It was more reliable and less costly than the horses. With the gas and repair costs it was cheaper than feeding and keeping the horses. Eventually they added more thngs on the car like more seats, seat belts, and better performance parts.

  • Process: Strumming/Pluck the Guitar String
  • Output: Music plays 

Engineering Failures:
The original idea of the guitar was just to have 6 strings and be made out of wood and animal parts, but the strings kept breaking. So instead they started using metal for the strings and adding more string to it so it sounds better and stays in tune longer.

Designed world system: It was made to entertain people. The console was Sony's new rise in power of videos games.

Impacts: The console took the 80's out of the arcade gaming and introduced the people to new 3D gaming which had never been seen on other consoles before.

Systems Model:
Input: Chip, CPU/ GPU Processor. wires, plastic, motherboard

Process: Connect everything, make sure the TV is turned on, turn on PlayStation

Output: The PlayStation providing entertainment.

Engineering Failures: The original idea of PlayStation was to entertain people and bring 3D gaming to the world, but there were many problems with how the PlayStation cooled down, crashing and freezing.
