He was born July 8 1839 and in 1870 incorporated the standard oil company. Rockefeller was running a monopoly of the oil business by about the year 1882. Many thought his practices were unethical because of his pricing and cooperation with the railroad This was frowned upon by many which led to many anti-trust laws. In 1865 Rockefeller bought out the company in Cleveland he worked at and after several expansions turned it into the standard oil company. The company would buy all rival companies and eventually control 90 percent of all the oil companies in the U.S. His wealth and success caused many to persecute him for whatever they could find. Because of the company's actions in 1890 the Sherman anti-trust act was passed which forbid trusts that restrained trade. When Rockefeller business was split his old members in the trust would grow to be some of the leading oil companies in the world today such as BP, Chevron, and exxon-mobil. A fun fact to know is by the time Rockefeller died in 1937, his assets equaled 1.5% of America’s total economic output. He funded the establishment of  the university of Chicago and the Rockefeller institute of medial research also known as Rockefeller university.
