In our school we think that the learning of a foreign language is very important, therefore we introduce English in P3.

 

Moreover, in Infantil there is an ‘ambient’, the Creative Space in English and during Primary, a part of Arts is in English as well. In Cicle Inicial there is also a part of P.E. in the foreign language. Since the 3^rd grade, one lesson per week is divided with two English teachers in order to go deeply into the Speaking and the Writing skills.

 

In the Escola Sant Jordi we always think in the continuous training in order to improve. We also believe that is very important to share our experiences with other schools to continue improving. That is why we participate in the ‘Seminari coordinació de Mestres de llengua anglesa’ and in the English day in our town.

 

This course we have started to participate in the Innovative Project Generació Plurilingüe (GEP), in order to continue improving the learning of the foreign language of or students. 

 

This is the second year that we develop the Speaking Project with a Speaking Assistant. Our students are very happy with this project and they try to improve their language by using it.

 

Firstly, we need to say that we weren’t able to finish all of our activities with our students because of the confinement situation. However, in the lessons that we were able to do with our students, we enjoyed a lot and we took advantage of the time.

The most important convenient that we find in this project is that we feel that the students created very few artworks, even our students expressed it. Although, our aim was to combine and balance language and contents, we think that we weren’t able to balance it well. The need to include the different skills in the two tasks, made us include less creative and hands on activities that we think are the base of Arts. This is a very important concern for us that we need to work on for the next course.

Another aspect that has been difficult for us is that when we are preparing the support language materials, we need to anticipate the language our students will need in the activity. Sometimes we aren’t sure of the language they will want to use because sometimes is more spontaneously. We strongly believe that this is one of the hardest tasks, to prepare all the materials needed in the lessons.

It is still difficult for us to encourage our students to try to use the language as much as they can during the different lessons. They try very hard when they have got the language support. However, they tend to forget as soon as we finish the activity. This is another point we need to work on, although we value positively all the language support materials that we have created because our students really need them in each step of the different activities.

We also believe that we need to continue doing lots of examples before doing the activities because students can see how the activities work and they feel more secure in order to do them. 

Our students were happy and participated during all the lessons we were able to do with them, so we are extremely happy about that. We value the fact of working together preparing the lessons and being in class with our students. We learn a lot from each other, we support each other and we believe that our teaching benefits from working together. As well as our students benefit from having two teachers in the class. Moreover, we can help better the students who need more help. It is very positive to address the diversity in class.

We look forward to continue working on all these aspects the next course and to continue improving and learning to help better our students.
