Hans far var sindsyg ( psykisk syg ), og derfor måtte Frederik overtage kongeriget tidligt.

Efter hans konfirmationen indtrådte han i stadtsrådet. 
Han var blevet 16 år, og skulle til sit første stadtsmøde. Frederik havde nu magten, og skulle styre kongeriget for sin sindsyge far.
