Tickle My Fancy by Jacob Turenne

I have numerous hobbies that keep me going. Activities and interest that I fill my free time with in order to live a fulfilling life. I'd love to make a living off of some of these interest, but other I only enjoy for recreation. Each I have dedicated hours of my life to which I will happily never get back. It was time well spent.

Some might say this isn't a hobby. Maybe it isn't, but considering how much time I spend doing it, it might as well be. I walk my dog pretty much every day when I'm home. We go for long walks when it's nice out and I have the time. Other times we go for short walks if it's cold, rainy, or my time is limited. Either way my buddy, Bucky is always down.

On Two Wheels

"Motorcycles are dangerous." True, but they're also really fun. When I was sixteen, I did a lot of wheeling and dealing to get this bike. I love to wrench and I continuously bought cheap cars or motorcycles that needed work. I'd fix them up enough to flip for a profit and move on to the next one. Eventually I traded a car for this 1976 Harley Davidson Sportster. It was completely unsafe to ride when I first brought it home. I fixed it up and rode the C#@P out of it. It isn't very pretty but it got me where I needed to go (most of the time). I haven't ridden it since the summer of my sophomore year because it needs some work and I haven't found the time to do it. Eventually I plan to restore and customize it to become the cool bike I know it can be.

If you can't tell by now, I love things that go vroom. I bought this car years ago with the help of my dad. It's condition when I first got it was the equivalent of a clapped out 90s Honda Civic. Although the exterior looks almost the exact same as when I bought it, I have worked on every other part of this car. It was a bit like a Flintstones's mobile when I first got it. The large rust holes in the floor made for great ventilation, but that was about it. I welded in new floors with the help of my uncle. The suspension, brakes, engine, transmission, rear end have all been updated. A project car is never truly complete, but it's getting there

I joined the Illinois Sailing Club my freshman year of college and completely fell in love with the sport of sailing. I basically had no sailing experience before college but I loved being out on the water. I became the Commodore of the club my sophomore year of college and ran it for the last two years. The club has allowed me to sail all around the Midwest and compete against many colleges. This is a pastime I hope I never lose touch with. [That is me skippering (driving) the front most boat, nearing the mark. Our team placed 3rd at that regatta!)

I went skiing for the first time when I was maybe 10 years old. Nothing too crazy, just the small hills in northern Illinois and Wisconsin. I tried snowboarding for a couple years when I was a teenager but I wasn't as good at that. It had been a few years since I skied or snowboarded when I found out about the Illinois Ski and Snowboard Club (ISSC). I went to Big Sky, Montana with them on their annual winter break trip my sophomore year. It was my first time skiing in a long time and my first time on an actual mountain. It was an amazing trip. I have since gone to Crested Butte, CO. and Winter Park, CO. with the ISSC. I love being on the mountain and challenging myself with tough terrain. Each trip has made me fantasize about moving out west and becoming a ski bum more and more.
