"On Tuesday morning, everything thing changed -- for real. Spray painted in white, loopy, neon- blue letters like a script of stars so bright they glowed in the day, and stretched so large it covered the entire sidewalk at the foot of the front stairs, was a graffiti tag." This quote is an example of a simile because it is comparing the words to stars.

"Yeah, he was trying to steal those chips!" the clerk interrupted, shouting over the cop's shoulder. Then, fixing his scowl back on me, he said, "Isn't that right? Isn't that what you were trying to do?" This quote is an example of conflict because the events go against the protagonist.

"Let me tell you something, son," he'd say, leaning in the doorway of my room. I'd by lying on my bed, doodling in my sketch pad, doing everything physically possible to not just stop and jam the pencils into my ears." This quote is an example of a flashback because the character is explaining something that happened in the past.

" There was blood pooling in my mouth- tasted like metal. There were tears pooling in my eyes." This an example parallel structure because the words in both sentences are similar to each other.

" Now spilt screen. Galluzzo's face next to mine. Him in his uniform and me in mine. But we were not the same. We were not the same" This quote is n example of foil because the police officer, Paul Galluzzo is the antagonist to Rashad, who is the protagonist to the protagonist in the story.

In the book, All American Boys, the words "All American" are used frequently by the main characters. All American use to describe the families living in a suburban area usually in middle America. The phrase all American boy is used to describe the typical high school or college boy with straight A's, playing a sport and participating in extracurricular activities. The main characters, Rashad and Quinn, similar when it come to the meaning of All American boys.
Rashad is a player on the varsity basketball team and is in the ROTC. His father is pushing him to be in ROTC because he believes that the army is the best place for a young African American boy. His father making him become this "All American Boy" character. Quinn is also a player on the varsity basketball team is not being pushed by anyone into some who he does not want to be. Quinn is already considered an All American Boy without being pushed by anyone.
The picture below is what Google showed as the all American family. The recurring phrase means the typical family in America. This picture is what Rashad's father what's for him and Rashad talks about it multiple times throughout the story. Quinn pretty much lives the "All American" life minus the absence of his father. The police officer who beat up Rashad was his father figure.

1. Rashad is wrongly accused of stealing a bag of chips from a convenient store and is beaten by a police officer.
2. Quinn sees that someone who he looks to as a father figure is the officer that harmed Rashad.
3. The news story is playing in the background at Paul's cookout and he gets upset.
4. Rashad's family brings the pastor of their church to visit him in the hospital and he starts to think that God was not with him when he was getting violated.
5. Rashad's brother, Spoony, sends his information to the news.
6. Rashad's father tells him that what happened to him was his fault, saying that he most likely look suspicious.
7. Quinn starts to realize that he could have helped Rashad is he would have said something instead off the just standing there.
8. Rashad meets an older lady that works at the hospital gift shop and start to visit her as much as he can.
9. Rashad's situation spreads throughout the entire school.
10. Rashad's friend, English, starts to realize what happened to his friend and gets upset over the fact that his friend is suffering for something that he did not do.

I chose the most important list for my list because these are very important parts that have happened in the book so far. These events have led up to the climax of the novel. The most important events list sums up the key points in a novel and shows the main events that have happened. I chose the events on the list because explain what the main characters go through as the novel continues.
I chose the picture below because most of the important events happen while Rashad is in the hospital. Most of the time while these events happen, Rashad's is unable to do anything about it and is lying helpless in the hospital. It is important because it shows the power of Rashad's situation without him being present. It shows that he has affected many people with what has happened to him. Rashad has impacted his school and his friends without being with them because of what he is going through.
