Promoting awareness and access to legitimate resources can help address this issue.

    • Provide Access: Institutions can offer free or discounted software through campus licenses, making it easier for students to get what they need legally. We already pay so much to attend: why not lend a helpful hand?

    • Promote Free Alternatives: Encourage students to use open source software, which is free and legal.

    • Include Ethics in Classes: Discuss ethics in tech courses, or other courses like English or Research, to help students understand the importance of using software legally.

They might feel pressured to complete assignments quickly and think using unlicensed software is the easiest way; I know I feel this way many times. Sometimes, the cost of legal software can be a barrier, making piracy seem like the only option. Not many students in college have the funds to afford softwares or cannot justify spending a certain amount of money for a software that will be used for a short period of time (and never again after they are done with the class).
