Reflection: put into groups to decide on how to plan our project. 10/11/20
We were put into groups for our group project. However, these were not our official groups, it was just a practice into team planning, so we get used to planning together whilst working as a team, as that it what skills we need for our summative assessment. Our group had 4 people in and our project was to look at research, which has already taken place on the crime and safety on the forest recreation ground in Nottingham. We made a group on Microsoft teams, sharing our individual ideas on how to structure our plan. We doc send on the main aims we would like to achieve from December- mid March. We didn’t get around to talking about the project, as we was unsure on how what we had to do but we was able to form a plan of what we should aim to do. We then shared this in our next workshop meeting.

I was thinking of using Driscoll’s model of reflection as it seemed very easy to use as there was only 3 steps. However, I feel as though everyone will probably pick his model, so I chose to use kolb’s model instead.

Why did I use kolb’s model of reflection?

I chose Kolb’s model of reflection as I also found it very easy to understand and use. This model helped me und errand why reflection is important, as it helps us evaluate what helped? What failed? In order to learn from our experience and help us figure out what we need to improve on, giving you a better understanding and more ideas.

Applying kolb's model to my reflection

The first stage was the concrete experience, which was meeting my group for the first time on Microsoft teams. It was quite nerve racking meeting new people and it being online. However, after speaking to them all, I became very comfortable to talk and share my ideas with the rest of the group. We all just started off by speaking about what we felt about this project and we made a plan for each month from December to mid March of our aims we want to achieve for each month. The next step was reflection of this experience, which is what went right/wrong. I think it went really well as we all spoke and shared ideas equally answered came up with a group plan however, when it came to sharing in the workshop, we didn’t really have much to speak on the actual project, we only had knowledge on the plan we made. Conceptualise is the next step in this reflective model, which looks on how to improve. We could have improved knowing more about the topic so that we had more to say about it in our workshop, as we only really understand how to make the plan but didn’t know what the project wanted us to find. So more research into the project before planning. Lastly, is experimentation, which looks for how I can use what I have used from my reflection in my work for next time. I know now I have learnt how to plan a project with other students who I’ve never met and for next time, I will take more time with my group work and try to understand the project abit more before planning anything .
