Princess Jasmine, from the Disney movie "Aladdin," demonstrates self-reliance throughout the movie by constantly implementing that she does not need a significant other to be happy or be successful in life; she believes she can conquer her dad's kingdom all by herself.
Supported by the following quotes:
"though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him..."
"The power which resides in him is new in nature, and none but he knows what that is.."

Kendrick Lamar's Song "i" Demonstrates Self-Reliance

The song "i," by Kendrick Lamar, demonstrates self-reliance throughout certain parts of the lyrics, such as:
"I went to war last night

With an automatic weapon, don't nobody call a medic

I'm a do it till I get it right

I went to war last night
I've been dealing with depression ever since an adolescent

Duckin' every other blessin', I can never see the message..."

These lyrics are parallel to the text from the essay because Kendrick Lamar talks about going to war by himself and he doesn't need anybody else to assist him; the text roughly covers the topic of trusting yourself and relying on yourself in many different situations, which is best demonstrated in this song.

Many people in his time thought of his teachings as complete nonsense, but his work is also known for its influence on the philosophy of science.

By providing these examples, Emerson allows the reader to feel comfortable in trusting themselves and letting them trust their own instincts instead of taking others' opinions into account.

In the final paragraph of his essay, Emerson discusses that people should speak what is on their mind regardless of what others think, because they could be famous for their ideas some day. Although they may be misunderstood, intelligent people will recognize their ideas and acknowledge them, as many famous contributors in the past have been through.
