Bohr expanded on Rutherford's work. He believed that electrons orbit the nucleus at fixed energies and distance. he stated that they are able to jump from one level to the next but can not exist in the space between. Later on it was shown that electrons move in a wave like pattern.

Rutherford described atoms as a big fish net with large gaps for the atom particles to pass through, while some will bounce back. He concluded that atoms consisted largely of empty space with only a few electrons. He also stated that most of the mass is located in the center or nucleus.
