But there were many technical details to remember. I think that we really need the support/guidance from MDL in the filming of our videos. at least at this moment, i think that a lot of the filming really depends on the experience of the MDL folks. Really appreciate how they come down to help us out! And also the core team for arranging it! One major take-away is that extensive planning is essential.

2) Shooting the videos is one thing. Editing them into a presentable product is another. I feel that our micro-teaching videos will be very "raw" and would be similar to the little video snippets shot by the sec sch consultancy team in our branch PD last year to illustrate the dos and donts last year. So  I feel that our micro-teaching videos will be useful for branch PD at the most.

(Steady shot, white balance, exposure, zebra, memory card, filming etiquette, framing, panning, tilting, shuttle speed). I really appreciate how the MDL team spent their time to train us and entertain our amateur questions. Very consolidated training in a very short period of time. 
2) If we are looking at professional video editing and filming, to be honest we will not be adequate. But if the aim is just for clear footages, and focus on the educator's perspective/ Ed Tech perspective on analysis and use of KATs, then I think our team effort will suffice. This piece of work is bigger than the filming and editing, what is impt is the engagement of schools, the micro-teaching PD, the ECP after. 
Having said that, the fear of losing footage (shaky hands/not having suitable settings), or not being on the ball to film suitable footages is there (having the teachers and students to repeat many times).

- So much to learn about handling a device and to make good shots
- Small details like placing what scene/take in front of the camera before we start rolling, knowing when to "cut" are important so we do not waste everyone's time whether during filming/post-production
- Appreciate the core team and MDL team for taking time to plan and lead. After the hands-on experience, it is obvious a clear idea is important to filming and i'm thankful they know what they want while we are still learning to handle the equipment.

2. What concern(s) do you have with regard to our video production with schools?
- The timeline we have to produce videos as we are still new to filming and editing. Recording 2 short snippets took us a few hours of filming, and we have not even started post-production.
- While i understand the need to have things going out to schools for timely PD and to get feedback, we have to look at the workload of the team as we also have workshop 3 and partnership with schools (some members with more responsibilities).
- What kind of footage should we have so that PD in schools will lead to meaningful discussion?

  • So many new camera techniques learnt! Very grateful to MDL for this session.
  • Storyboard needs to show our vision of how the video will look like (not how the lesson will look like).
  • Need to be clear what the shot is focusing on (e.g. student using SLS, or the content of the SLS lesson?)
  • Importance of planning ahead, knowing the storyboard inside out, labeling all the scenes, and being meticulous with record keeping (btw I found a very good clapperboard app)

2. Concerns
  • Need more practice to be truly confident in handling the device
  • Need to select teachers and students judiciously (e.g. cannot choose students who may be knowledgeable but camera shy!)

There is a need to plan the order to capture the scenes and there is a need to do a Reece at the venue to do up some preparation prior to the actual shoot (e.g. white balance etc.)

2. Concerns:
(a) Teacher & student readiness; they are not professionals and one day for re-enactment might not be sufficient.
(b) Practice - there might be a need to have the team shoot multiple more times before the re-enactment so that we are confident enough that we are shooting scenes that eventually can be used in our videos

I gained new insights about how we need to have clear overview and sight of the different types of shots, the moves within the shots and the intent of the shots. The appointed Director among us needs to be fully cognisant of these factors to be able to have a targetted and efficient session. It is useful to have MDL there to handhold us and to verify if our technical aspects have been done correctly and to share with us their tips based on their experience (this was highly useful). The ETD team at the school filming will have to be assertive in terms of directing the teacher and students to bring out intended teacher/student moves. Eg. directing teacher which angle to walk in the classroom, how students' body language should be like etc. (for purposes of video production). We are really like a video production house.

Concerns 

We need to do a bit of reverse engineering starting from the video production product in mind. The subject team together with the video production team needs to visualise the end product (how it will look like, key messages to convey) which will impact the filming (types of shots, angles, dialogues, etc) and also to already convey to the school during the Co-designing of Lesson stage. 
ETOs will still need MDL around to support us in terms of the technical aspects of the filming. 
Overall, impeccable planning is key for our entire production from end to end. We do not want to have a scenario where we only realise we do not have certain shots to bring out our key messages wrt KAT only during the post-production stage.
