An example of a simile is &quot;he was as cool as a cucumber&quot; or my &quot;shoes smell like garbage&quot;. An example of a metaphor is &quot;the sun was a gleaming pearl&quot;. Similes use &quot;like&quot; or &quot;as&quot; while metaphors don&#39;t.</title>
