Our study centres support learners with their learning by providing teaching staff, library resources, clinical skills suites and a space for them to connect in a physical sense with the course alongside online learning and placement/work locations.

Learners will be required to attend once a month to an allocated study centre.

For your apprentice to be eligible for the RNDA, they need:

a minimum of 112 UCAS points and 4 GCSE's at grade 4/5 or above which usually includes Maths and English OR

Nursing Associate Qualification OR

Healthcare Assistant Practitioner OR

Higher Education Certificate in Health & Social Care.

To support your applicants, please ensure the following criteria are met before enrolment:

Academic & Employment Requirements

• Ability to work at Level 2 literacy and numeracy

• Employed in a health or care role at the point of enrolment

• Employment must be in a setting with supervision by a registered nurse (or another suitable health or care professional)

• Contracted for a minimum of 30 hours per week at programme start

Residency & Right to Work

• Has lived in the UK for the past 3 years

• Holds a visa valid for the full programme duration (if applicable)

Documentation

• Name change document (if certificates are in a different name)

• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate – confirmation, date, and certificate number

• Occupational Health screening – confirmation and date
  

If a learner chooses not to register at this time, they must do so within five years, or else they will have to undergo further training. Learners are reminded that they can only practice as a registrant once registered with the NMC and in receipt of a PIN. 

• Have the knowledge, skills and attributes to contribute to the safe and effective delivery of care. 

• Demonstrate professionalism in accordance with the regulatory standards. 

• Maintain their development to ensure contemporary care is assessed, planned and delivered. 

• Work effectively within a team and can work autonomously as required. 

• Advocate for patients and carers as circumstances develop and require. 

• Contribute to the effective working of the multi-disciplinary team. 

Apprentices will complete 25 hours each week on the apprenticeship which over the course of 4 years for the RNDA, demonstrates the requirement for NMC registration of 4600 hours in total. This will either be 25 hours per week in study or 25 hours per week on placement.

For FDNA programmes, over the 2 years, this equates to 2300 hours in total. 1150 in year 1 and 1150 in year 2. This will either be 25 hours per week in study or 25 hours per week on placement.

For the RPL programme leading to Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship (RNDA), the learner will complete

• Level 5: 52 weeks

• Level 6: 52 weeks

• Total Duration: 2 years with the same study commitment of 25 hours/week (theory/practice)

Progress is monitored consisting of Informal and Formal reporting. Learners will be allocated a Coach who will meet with them every 12 weeks to complete a mandatory Progress Review. In addition, the allocated Academic Assessors will have regular contact with the learner to assess their progression in line with NMC standards and support and signpost them to resources for any issues that may arise, including action plans when required.  

BPP Student Support

50% of the programme comprises time in placement and as the employer, you will organise these in line with the programme planners.

To meet NMC standards, the learner will need to experience different placements so time will be spent outside of the employment base for some of the allocated placement time. This gives you the opportunity to care for different patient groups, in different settings and with different teams.

Supervision and Assessment

During practice placements, learners will work alongside Practice Supervisors and Practice Assessors who are trained to support and assess students in the workplace in accordance with the NMC Standards for student supervision and assessment.

The practice assessment document is an essential record that demonstrates learning, skills, and progress throughout the learners time in practice.

It contains evidence of proficiencies and the practice hours achieved.

a) interactive live sessions in our online classroom, fostering dynamic learner engagement through various interactive tools,

b) face to face sessions to develop a stronger sense of community, getting to test out thoughts and ideas in small groups, with sessions to learn clinical skills, and

When the learner visits our study centres, they will get to participate in skills sessions, and meet the academic team, further enhancing practical skills and fostering a sense of belonging within the programme.

At the start of the programme all learners will attend an induction to help orientate them to BPP University and the course. They will have sessions on how to access and navigate our virtual learning environment where all key information about the modules, timetables and programme requirements are kept. They will also meet the team who are committed to supporting their journey to success!

Uniforms

Different employers have different approaches to uniform policy for apprentices. Some employers prefer apprentices to continue to wear their uniform, but where this is not the case, BPP will order a uniform and cover the cost of this.

Learners will be sent a link with measurement instructions for use by our supplier. Normally uniforms are delivered to the relevant study centre where they can be collected.

Annual Declaration

In line with NMC standards, learners will be sent a link to an online Declaration of Good Character and Good Health at the beginning of the programme and on an annual basis. They will need to complete this before being allowed into placement as part of the programme.

We want applicants to do their best. They will be sent top tips with their invitation for interview but it is a good idea to always read the NMC Code ahead of time to begin to reflect on their experiences in a healthcare setting or from school, work and personal situations.
