Grandparent Life Story by https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd Sherry Brenneman en-us 2020-04-08 20:12:08 UTC 2023-05-31 16:16:06 UTC hello@padlet.com https://padlet.net/icons/png/1f607.png Elementary through high school jonathan_alexandre https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507228381 Life in Hutchinson, KS in the mid-1940’s was interesting.  Like many children back then, Sharon Brenneman, my American grandma, attended an ordinary school built out of wood.  Each grade had one classroom.  After 5th grade, she moved to Winas for 6th grade.  She rode her bike two miles each way to school.  One day it was raining hard.  Her bike slipped on the railroad tracks, she fell down and cut her leg.
Grandma moved to Sherman Junior High in 7th grade.  The school was very diverse – people of different races in her class.  Much like today, the school food was bad so she took her food to school.  There were plenty of trouble makers at school.  Grandma was a student patrolman and reported kids that got in trouble.

Grandma also enjoyed choir.  She sang in both the Choir and in a small group.  Her choir traveled all over the United States and performed in churches.  While they usually stayed with families, one time they stayed at a mortuary in Iowa.  It was crazy sleeping next to dead people.  They played lots of cards on the bus while they traveled.
]]> 2020-04-14 20:39:37 UTC https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507282484 Grandma Embarrassing Moment jonathan_alexandre https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507286743 In 2nd grade, Grandma was trying to take an icicle to school for show and tell.  She hid it in her book bag.  Unfortunately, she forgot until she realized it had melted all over her lap.  She was embarrassed and cried because she thought her friends would make fun of her.  It looked like she had peed her pants.  She wanted to go home and change, but they would not let her.  So she cried.
Grandma’s high school made them attend chapel three days a week.  Sometimes Grandma and her friends did not want to go so they hid in the attic between the wood beams and the insulation.  One time they got caught and the principal called them out.  They also had to write a paper on “Why They Chose to be a Christian”.

At the end, he issued a call for people to walk forward if they wanted to accept Jesus as their Savior.  
 
Grandma raised her hand, walked forward and accepted Jesus.  The preacher prayed with her.  She remembers him praying John 3:16.  “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only son.  That whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16.
]]> 2020-04-14 20:45:43 UTC https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507290445 Grandma first love jonathan_alexandre https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507293344 Howard Brenneman was born on a farm near Hesston, Kansas.  He grew up working on the farm and attending Hesston schools.  He went to Hesston High school.  Grandma’s friends said he was shy.  They said he had never asked a girl out on a date.  So grandma’s friends said that if he asked her out, she should go.  Grandpa asked grandma on a date when they were 16 and they have never been with anyone else since then.  Grandma said that grandpa was tall, good looking and popular.  He played basketball and baseball for the high school team.  He was a great shooter in basketball.  Grandma said that her grandson, Jonathan, reminds her of grandpa! They knew nothing else.  They were devoted Christians.  They helped many people who were hurt, sick or did not have enough money to buy food.  Grandma’s dad was pastor of their church but did not get paid.  He had to work another job for pay to the family.  He would visit his church’s sick and others in their homes.  Grandma’s dad did do revival meetings a lot all over the United States. He died at 58 years old – partly due to so much stress from working both a full-time pay job, doing travel revival meetings and also serving as a pastor.  Grandma’s mom remarried many years later and lived on a farm.  She died when she was 94 years old. ]]> 2020-04-14 21:21:22 UTC https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507333268 Grandma love sports jonathan_alexandre https://padlet.com/jonathan_alexandre/h9whfcmnyuyd/wish/507338528 Grandma loved watching basketball.  She liked it even more when grandpa played.  She cheered him on at his games.  She also liked baseball.  Grandpa was catcher on the baseball team.  Many years later, golf became her favorite sport.  She and grandpa played together and sometimes with their sons. 
            The professional teams in Kansas were the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.  They would go to a game every year and listen on the radio or TV to other games.  She watched them before the first Super Bowl even happened, saw their first Super bowl win and then she was very excited when the Chiefs won the Super Bowl this year!

She love to shop for her grandchildren.
