All fields of science advance the human race in so many ways. Developing new technologies to make every aspect of our lives easier or more efficient, or better yet, inventing entirely new things to do with our lives. astronomy has done this over and over by developing technology specifically for space, but it can quickly be copied or slightly modified to help in other fields. "Computers, satellites and the smartphones they service, Global Positioning System (GPS), energy-efficient solar panels, digital camera sensors, airport security scanners, portable X-ray machines, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanners are just a few of the technological advances that are the legacy of astronomy, and that benefits us all on Earth." (How can astronomy improve life on earth?). This quote goes to show the technology used in space helps is in other ways. In addition to just this technology, space will very likely be our future once the Earth becomes unlivable or blows up, so that's gonna be important. Astronomy is also used to delay that point by keeping a close eye on the sun for solar flares or asteroids so we don't go out like the dinosaurs. I'm curious on who made the connection from magnetic resonance to scanning brains with an MRI and how they did it.
(How can astronomy improve life on earth?)

Up until 1512, people on Earth were very egotistical (similar to today) and thought that Earth was the center of everything. They believed that the stars, planets, the Sun, and everything revolved around Earth. That was until some guy named Nicolaus Copernicus thought that it would be easier to think about things if we put the Sun in the middle of the solar system, with Earth spinning around it like everything else. This of course has since been proved right but was very smart of this guy, or maybe just a lucky guess. This was so important because if people still somehow believed we were in the center of the solar system, they'd be very confused whenever they realized they weren't. I do want to know more about why this was his theory, was it just a guess because it made more sense in his head?
(Class notes slideshow).

The study of astronomy doesn't only effect the studies of space. Inventions and developments made by astronomers can be applied to human life too. Advancements in astronomy have been used for health. Discoveries of technology have made new methods for radiation treatment that focus on removing tumors. Also, technology that has been applied to instruments used for MRI scanning and brain injury. According to the article How Can Astronomy Improve Life on Earth, "Scientists at the CFA are developing an open-access, low-magnetic-field human MRI instrument, that can be used for molecular imaging and the study of traumatic brain injury." One question I have regarding how the studies of astronomy advances humans is how did people decide to test technology used for astronomy on people?

According to amnh.org, "Astronomy is the study of everything in the universe beyond Earth’s atmosphere." Physics is very important when studying astronomy. Unlike some other sciences, astronomy is a branch of natural sciences. We are studying what is already in the galaxy and aren't able to change or alter the universe for studies, which differs from some branches of science. One question I have regarding astronomy is how other sciences are able to build off what astronomy has discovered and apply it to their own sciences.

Without astronomy our daily life would be completely different, we wouldn't have the technology that improves our lives so much. We also wouldn't have possible life saving technology like MRI's. Before the Heliocentric Model it was thought that planets revolved around the earth, which is called the Geocentric model. The Heliocentric Model is the modern model of our solar system, the planets revolving around the sun, "In 1512 Copernicus circulated a short commentary containing the essence of his new hypothesis: the Sun is the center of the solar system, the planets move around it, and the stars are immeasurably more distant"(class notes). This allows us to better understand the solar system and the universe in general which helps us progress in astronomy. I wonder how modern science would've progressed if the Heliocentric Model was discovered much later, would we have been able to achieve as much?

In my opinion, I believe that a big turning point in Astronomy was the birth of science in Greece. Around 500 B.C to A.D150. Philosophers in Greece brought logic and reason to understand more about our universe which came with even more discoveries. With the help of geometry they were able to mesure the true distance of objects in space with lead to even more understanding. Soon they were able to understand eclipses which lead them to get the exact circumference of our own earth and brought even more theories. With not much data at hand they came up with the theory of Heliocentric Cosmology, the theory that the sun was in the center of the universe and planets and stares rotated in its orbit. Even with the fall of Greece Civilization astronomy was able to make even more advances leaving science in Greece a strong base. I wonder If my response is valid? I used www.teachastronemy.com History of Astronomy.

This helps us now reason with what people thought about and theorized in the past. We can understand where we came from, and help us learn about the future.

i think one of the biggest turning points in astronomy history was when we learn that we move around the sun and not the sun moving around us. in inquiresjournal.com there was a type of war between science and religion was going on and their people would die on both sides. since the church at the time did not want heliocentrism to go around and would kill and charge people who ether wrote books about it and were charged with hearsay. my question is that if the church wanted to stay in much control and power as possible and if the astronomy made, they feel as if they would lose power if it was allowed to spread.

one of the big Turning points in astronomy is when we invented the telescope it increased research by a lot because we could look further in space ans study stars and planets Telescopes have opened our eyes to the universe. Early telescopes showed that Earth was not the center of the universe, as was previously believed. They also showed mountains and craters on the moon. Later telescopes have revealed geography and weather on the planets in our solar system."telescope, device used to form magnified images of distant objects. The telescope is undoubtedly the most important investigative tool in astronomy. It provides a means of collecting and analyzing radiation from celestial objects, even those in the far reaches of the universe".

https://www.britannica.com one of questions i have is what we think one of the next big turning points will be. - by joel

One of the biggest turning points in astronomy was the creation of the telescope, in 1608 While there is evidence that the principals of telescopes were known in the late 16th century, the first telescopes were created in the Netherlands in 1608. Makers Hans Lippershey & Zacharias Janssen and Jacob Metius independently created telescopes. though it was only able to see up too 20 feet long, it magnified objects about a hundred times, and still had a considerable field of view. I like this quote because of the wonderful things were able to see when using a telescope.
"By taking our sense of sight far beyond the realm of our forebears' imagination, these wonderful instruments, the telescopes, open the way to a deeper and more perfect understanding of nature."
—René Descartes, 1637. one question I still have is how did they really map out the universe and everything with out the telescopes or technology we had today.

The field of Astronomy advances the human race in many ways like technology ,medical reasons and over all working together. Technological and scientific development in Astronomy have creeped up into our day to day life's, smartphones computers and digital camera sensors are just a few advances we had because of Astronomy. The advances also were shown in the medical field, High energy and neutron optics laboratories made mirrors to help space telescopes and with a few modifications were able to design high focus scopes for radiation treatments. Over all with Astronomy, many people around the world wanting to learn more about our universe it made worldwide collaborations and brought many ideas into mind. Its a sciences that doesn't have a straight correct answer and with scientist and astronomers pushing there limits to find more answers it has become a positive practice, it helps humans explore even more and have bigger questions witch means more advances. I wonder how much more advances we will have in a couple more years? I used cfa.harvard.edu

All throughout history there have been long standing theories and hypothesis which sound outlandish based on what we know in the current day. Knowing the history of Astronomy is important to remember that what we know should always be held up to a healthy amount of questioning to ensure that what we think is fact, is actually fact.
