By 1860,380,00 people lived in California. It was not easy to cross the Rocky Mountains to get to the West Coast.  The trip from Missouri to California was 2,000 miles.  It took a wagon train 3 months to travel  that far. Relay stations were built every 10 to 15 miles. The Pony Express used 400 horses and 120 riders to keep the mail at all times. This was the headqaurters of the pony express station no. 1 the home station in marysvillbarn buil by joseph cottrell in 1859. Hollen Pony Express staion also known as Cottonwood Pony Express Station . Rock creek station was established along the oregon Califoria trail in 1858. This old post and toll bridege built by louis 1559.
