Herron, Aundr&#x00E9 M. "The Death Penalty Does Not Deter Crime." Crime and Criminals, edited by Christina Fisanick, Greenhaven Press, 2010. Originally published as "The Death Penalty Is Not Civilized," Sacramento Bee, 20 Apr. 2008.

The purpose of this article is to alert people that there are other ways to punish people of wring doing (murder) without having to execute them off the earth. The author of this article explains the unncany events of the death penality and why they are uessecary. We can assume that the intended audience is people who have been a victim of losing a loved one most likey due to murder. The author of this article uses pathos as their rhetorcal appeal. They talk about their own experences about losing a loved one due to homicide. I believe that this appeal works because repetition is used to get the reader amped up or ecxited about a cause. The source does a great job at clairyfing the topic as they use real life experiences as well as experiences being the field of law about how execution does not bring closure to the victims families. One defect of this article is that the author states their own experience in how they feel the death penalty did not bring closure to them. This is a bias because this does not apply to all people. This artcle can be seen as usefull because we can use the authors experience working in the law field.

Accessed 1 Oct. 2024.

This article aims to educate those about the death penalty and the author describes the different methods used. The article also highlights that the presedent of the United States himself, Joe Biden, does not agree with death sentencing. Later on in the article we learn that while some have banned the executions, other states still carry out the procedure and names seven states which an execution has been carried out in the last 24 years. The intened audience of this article is people who protest against the death penalty. This article uses logos as its rhetrical appeal and its extremely effective in encouring people to not support the death penalty. This source clairfies the topic very well as they use logistics to support their thoughts on the death penalty topic. There are no defects in this article, everything is supported with logic. This article is veery effective with my topic, it provides clear logistics and real life situations which will become exteremy useful when writing my argumentetive essay.

Accessed 1 Oct. 2024.

The purpose of this article is to provide background information on the history of the death penalty. The article provides information on executions dating from back in 1976 and giving the updated status of death penaltys at the time (2008). The intended audience is those looking to be educated in the history of the death penalty and those who fight against it. The article uses ethos and logos as the rhetorical appeal. They provide some useful evedence and then ties it back into the morals the death penalty shows. It is an effective use of ethos and logos. The artcle helps define the history of the death penlty which is an effective way of pursuading the reader. Because the auhthor uses ethos as part of their rhetorical appeal, this could fail to persuade some minds since everyone does not agree with the same morals. This article can be effective when writing the argumentitive essay since is provides backgrounf informarion of the death penlty and qoutes from people and their opinons on the topic.

This article provides information and evidence about how the deah penalty does not stop people from commiting murders since most people who have the death penalty are convicted of a homicide. This article uses logos as the rhetorical appeal. They provide studies and qoutes from Northwestern University School of Law's and Journal of Criminal law and Criminology. This source helps define the topic as they use logistics to prove a point. There arent really any defects as this artcle is based off logic and has evidence to back it up. This is very relevent to my research topic because it provides me evidence and facts about the death penlty sentencing.
