REFLECTIONS

Omar Herrera: While developing the video presentation and script based on the studied bibliographic material, I realized the importance of achieving greater precision in cultural research. Properly recognizing different cultures will lead to a more accurate demographic profile, taking into account both historical context and how language is used within specific communities. Additionally, it's crucial to acknowledge that, despite certain shared elements like language and significant celebrations, cultures remain distinct due to their unique historical and social contexts, as well as the varying influences they receive from other cultures.

Nelson Jiménez:

Language in this context is more than just words, it is a tool that carries with it traditions, emotions and ways of seeing the world. By talking about food, customs and celebrities, Carlos and Raúl are building bridges between two cultures that, although related, have deep differences and nuances. The Spanish that Raúl speaks so naturally in Mexico reflects a sense of belonging to a culture that has maintained its purest traditions, while the "Spanglish" that Carlos uses is a manifestation of a hybrid identity, typical of Chicanos, that has adapted to a bicultural reality.

Luisa Mendoza: Through this work I learned to more thoroughly recognize each context of a certain culture and its reason for existence, while investigating this culture. Furthermore, through this course and its contents, we have been given a large amount of new knowledge about language, culture and identity and how each of these is composed or composed and from these each cultural difference can be formed in all the communities and societies of the world.

Gigliola Pineda:

The readings were a great contribution not only to work but to everyday life in general, since language and culture are part of our daily life. It is important to recognize cultures as their identity, since although there are similarities between some cultures, each one has characteristics and components that differentiate them, due to their historical and social context. In addition, I discovered the importance of language in the formation of a culture since it is the beginning of the social formation of a culture for a new society. In conclusion, culture, language and society are part of the identity that makes us forge beliefs and traditions.

Katherine Ramírez:

Through these readings, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the profound connection between language, culture, and identity. I learned that language is more than just a tool for communication—it shapes how we see the world and reflects our cultural values. Each language carries its unique perspective, reinforcing the importance of linguistic diversity. Additionally, I realized how language forms our sense of belonging and can both unite and divide communities, especially in multilingual settings. Finally, I discovered how language not only mirrors social structures but also plays a role in constructing our social identity. This has given me a greater appreciation for the impact that language has on both personal and collective identity.

In this activity, we will work with various cultures, such as the Chinaca culture in the United States and the Mexica culture in Mexico. Throughout this experience, we will select themes and customs representative of these cultures to develop a theatrical or cultural presentation. From the creation of the script to rehearsals and staging, we will focus on capturing the essence of each community’s traditions, language, and gestures. The process will culminate in an event where we will share our work and reflect on what we have learned, not only about Chinaca and Mexica cultures, but also about their context and integration into different societies.
