The message of the poem represents a community that demands to be recognized and accounted for, which can be applied not only to the African American community, but also others, like the Latinx community.

the poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of how the bowler hat man from "Meet The Robinsons" let his dreams explode due to his own will, how he let his next dream (destroy his roommates work) fester in his mind, how he told his past self to let his fate wait in the sun to dry up as his happiness turns into a raisin.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of how people felt discouraged towards their dreams of the future in America. Many Black people felt trapped in America, feeling as if their dreams were drying up like "A raisin in the sun". In the poem, "Harlem" it talks about how postponing ones dreams can make them disappear. The civil rights movements took action towards their dreams. This poem is a message to not give up on what you dream of.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of dreams, dreams can dry up or get old. Sometimes dreams can get so heavy in the mind it explodes, there's not enough room in your mind to hold on too dreams. That's why I think you can get consistent dreams about something. When there other things on your mind the dream dry's up, but it comes back reminding you during the night.

The poem talks about dreams being delayed, like how people still fight against racism today. Hate groups try to spread fear, but people keep standing up for fairness and equality in their communities.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of school and figuring out what I want to do in life. I have dreams of going to college out of state, but it makes me think of all the things I need to do before I can get there. What I want to focus on, and if this dream is worth it in the end. I am not set with what I want as my end goal, which leaves me overthinking constantly. Pressure from others already being set on what they want, and wanting to satisfy my parents.

“Harlem” by Langston Hughes reminds me of several books. One of the books we (as a class) read recently was The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho. The poem and the book share similar ideas about dreams. The Alchemist was all about following one’s dreams to the very end, not giving up. This poem however represents almost the exact opposite, what happens when you don’t follow a dream. Does it “dry up” or “fester like a sore,” will you hold some lingering resentment that you didn’t try to complete your dream.

There are some other books that could be loosely connected this poem as well. One of them is the book “Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. The true story of how people shared the dream of Olympic glory, but instead of being a dream that didn’t come true, that just “festered in the sun,” they made their dream come true by winning an Olympic medal. They followed through with it until the end.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of the dreams of colored families being crushed, after expecting better. I thought of this because of the quick conversation we had about the great migration. From what I was getting, colored families were moving to the north, expecting to feel welcomed and safe, but the people in the north did not seem to welcome them. Therefore, I believe dreams were crushed because colored families may have still been dealing with racism in the north, just as they were in the south.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of how people are in distress because of the current situations going on currently. The specific line "what happens to a dream deferred? does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? or fester like a sore and then run." Which makes me think of like a dream of finding life in the states and the people protesting against it is kind of like it festering like a sore and then running like you are forced to meet reality and people protesting is them running to defy their dreams being deferred.

The poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes reminds me of like people who are like segregationist or assimilationist that wants like the black community to not dream to their freedom to come true because the word "dream deferred" in the poem, it means your putting your dream away, and that's what people who are segregationist/assimilationist want. They want people who have different cultures than them to put their dream of "being free" or "having full freedom" away, so that wouldn't come true.

As they are raisins that "no one wanted" because they had no parents but each other.

What I think about the poem "Harlem" by Langston Hughes is how when people have dreams and they cant be attained, it can drag behind someone their whole life, and effect people differently. Some peoples dreams dry up in their mind and they put it behind them, some people have it sag behind them their whole life, "like a heavy load", and some people just explode and are never the same after their dream is deferred . I think the poem has a deep meaning even though it is so short.
