I hope in 5 years I remember that the ISTE standards are a tool for me to use to make my classroom more accessible and more flexible for students who may not learn in the "traditional" way. I also hope that I remember, even when technology malfunctions and acts up, it is generally more worth it in the end for the learners.

Five years from now, I hope to remember the element that students are considered agents of their own learning. Especially on a secondary level, I think that this key point is so important because when working with high school students, they are just as much a part of the leanring process as the teacher is. One piece of advice I've recieved about making sure students remain engaged and participatory is to connect your lesson to their personal experience as much as possisble so they can see how what you are teaching applies to their lives.

With technology increasingly spreading, a lesson from the ISTE Standards that I want to remember is that it's here to help! A lot of resources online can be damaging to academics, like asking chatgpt to complete something, but incorporating certain programs into lessons can be great. For example, this course is so technology advanced (uses programs I have never seen before!) and it's an exciting way to learn. So overall, I hope to remember that technology is here to help me, not harm me.

Five years from now, I hope to remember that according to ISTE Student Standards, I as a teacher, assume the role of a facilitator who guides students and helps them develop their own autonomy. I think it's important for students to be agents of their learning and as a teacher, the best way to encourage this would be to be there for guidance and give them the tools for independence in their education.
