For many years, there have been so many accusations made towards Malaysian employers who exploit immigrant workers, whom are mostly Indonesian.
Note that victims who are abused are usually those in a vulnerable position and these workers, who probably came to Malaysia without knowing anyone or understand the language completely, even arriving to the country illegaly - are the ones most likely to get exploited.
What's most common to happen is that their salary isn't given, horrible working conditions, even abuse (both physical & sexually).

Taken from the Jakarta Post, Adelina Lisao is a woman from NTT who came to Malaysia when she was just 17 years old. Now 21, she experienced abuse at the hands of her employer, who abused her for a month. She was not given meals and was forced to sleep outside.
Her employers were then arrested, however, they were acquitted which resulted in an uproar by Indonesian activists.
(The Jakarta Post, 2020)

The problem here is very complex. Firstly, you have the case of immigrants coming into Malaysia illegaly very easily. Secondly, you have immigrants being treated unfairly in a work enviroment, which means regulations regarding the protection of an immigrant workers rights are not there or are not being implemented.

In conclusion, the laws regarding immigrant workers' rights are still very much weak in Malaysia.
However, in the same post I quoted in the case study, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur have renewed a bilateral agreement regarding this issues that expired back in 2016.
