Maslow’s Hierarchy is a theory that arranges the five basic needs of people—physiological, security, social, esteem, and self-actualization—into the order in which people strive to satisfy them. I think the theory has its place in our work and our general environments as people tend to work to achieve their basic needs first before getting to higher levels of satisfying their self-esteem.

This theory is depicted as a pyramid and organizes the five different levels of human psychological and physical needs in order of importance with the physiological needs at the bottom/base of the pyramid, followed by security, social, esteem and self-actualization needs. Maslow believes that managers can use this hierarchy to better understand employees' motivation and address them in ways lead to productivity and job satisfaction.

I personally don't believe this theory. I believe, some people, probably not all, are driven more by principles than needs. I know some people are not driven by the compensation or benefits that a company can provide but rather if the company is in sync with their principles and how happy they are at what they are doing. We can easily think of actors, singers, artists, and musicians in the millions that keep trying to succeed in their respective fields regardless of the compensation that they receive but for the pure joy of what they are doing.
